Possibly, because of the angle of the of the cover rail w/ the teeth, and the positioning of the back plastic/metal part of the bed, the clamps dont sit straight into the cover rail w/ the teeth interlocking. Hopefully, that makes sense? Basically no matter how hard I tried w/ repositioning the cover rails, the clamps dont sit flush to properly grip, and so only like 1 or two at most interlock.
Hi J,

Got ya! My clamps are not flush but I looked at the load path and determined that it was okay to not be flush but clamped securely which it has been. Clamps are not parallel on my install but are doing their job. I had a similar concern but thought about it and decided it was an acceptable design and so far it has proved to be just fine. JMO!

Best,
Phil

Retired, work is a four letter word.
I bought my MX4 also from BAK's store on Amazon, installed myself without issue, all parts were included and no issue installing the clamps w/o shims. I thought the design was straight forward.

The Amazon Q&A section seems to have a number of answers marked as coming from the Manufacturer/Seller/etc., which seems like a good thing. And it includes answers that they use the seller's return policy (in this case Amazon's), which is also good.

Reviews have some common complaints (missing parts, instructions are useless), but they mostly say good things about BAK customer service too, which I'm glad to see when I'm dropping over a grand on the cover.

Great to know about the price matching too! I'll have to look at whether BAK or other sellers would charge for shipping, such that it would be a total higher price vs Amazon, but good to have in the back pocket (BAK pocket? haha).

Thanks for the info! Hopefully will get an order in after my next paycheck, and then hopefully the snow in my area will stop for long enough to get the bed cleaned and the cover installed.
never trust amazon questions & answers, and take reviews with a grain of salt. it is acommon practce to put a good item upgets lots of positive reviews and then replace it with a crappy alternative or different item all together.

Ok i finally tried again this morning and i got it installed.... gotta do a test drive and see how stable it is and see how the water protection is (not too worried if a lil come through). But i think i got it lined up as best as possible.

If you go this route, when installing the clamps... do not overtighten thats what i was doing and it was bending the rails downward and messing up the alignment on everything.

Don't the instructions still come with a torque spec? I forgot what it's supposed to be, but it was in the instructions that came with mine.

ya their torque spec sucks…. Said 13.5nm. I probably did a bit more than half that. I tightened to where it was secured and wouldnt wiggle about or be pulled down, thats it. They basically cookie cuttered the instructions for all applications im almost certain.

For anyone who's interested in a BakFLip cover, we will be running a sale starting on the 17th that will be giving a larger percent off the 5% seen on Amazon. If interested, shoot me a PM and I can give you the details.
