I'll have to try it later but I think when I the return button it doesn't take me to the folders....
Maybe I should create play list instead of just having things in folders only.
Think I clicked the source button but when i go back to the USB it starts playing where it left off
Remember, when you're on a song, it's browse then back arrow.

The USB stick needs to be formated to x-fat, I think. Not FAT or NTFS.
Make sure the appropriate format, like FAT32, supports the SYNC system.

I too have a USB thumb drive with about 5-10,000 songs on it from my CD collection. I usually just leave it on shuffle and let it go. Blues, Rock and Roll and Jazz are my music of choice. I can use also blue tooth my latest Sony Walkman (10,000 songs and it's only 1/2 full) and play that way also. I use the Walkman for riding my motorcycle or my local walks or blue tooth to a little portable speaker or to my tent trailer or to my Ranger. It's a very small and awesome little unit.
Me too, I have about 30 days, 24/7 of music on it. Only issue I have is sometimes it gets in a groove and only shuffles through about a dozen artists for some reason and then it will finally get out of that loop and play something else.

Didn't work...browse and then back takes you back to contents of the same folder
I guess I'll try voice commands tomorrow.

What model Ranger and version of Sync do you have?
Looks like something Ford put in place so you can change it while driving.

'21, and Sync is the latest version as listed here in the forum. Did you try tap Search, then choose your USB, which should give you the option to choose a different folder?

Doesn't work..The new search is grey and when you click it, it says something like feature disabled for safety while vehicle in motion.
'22 and radio says latest sync version.
Here's how dumb this is. I can use voice commands to say play an artist, it'll put a song up on the screen on the folder the song is in and then sync says choose selection from #drumroll the screen :headbang:

I have Prime and just started using Amazon Music when plugged up to CarPlay. Like it a lot.

To achieve what you are after you will need a Naviks device. I put one in my mustang.

yes, it's pretty dumb. here's another one. I'm the passenger in the F-150 at work. It's a Lariat with all the bells & whistles. I try to use the search button on screen to navigate and it won't do it because it's not set up with a FordPass account (it's a rental truck, so why TF would I do that?). It would probably then give the disabled for safety warning after connecting Ford Pass, though.

But it let me connect my phone via android auto (wireless) and then do navigation that way (was able to quick navigate to the destination without attempting a full search because I had navigated to that spot with AA in my Ranger that morning).

yeah that's crazy
I went and made some playlist and I can tell it to play by genre of album playlist it looks like..I haven't tried driving and using the playlist but it worked in the driveway pulling up a playlist, so looks like I'll have to voice command a playlist and scroll through it or let it play...
Another dumb thing by ford, yeah you can't browse a new folder while driving but we want you to look down and try to find the correct button to push for your climate control because they're very tactile feel

Maybe a US-Canada, difference, IDK? I have nothing locked down on my Sync screen while driving.

Yeah that's probably what it is. US-Canada
I can sort of get by with Voice prompt to play a playlist, voice command will do genre also but I don't always tag my mp3's so I'll just make a few genre playlist and add music from different folders

Yep, it got nerfed a while back for the NHTSA guidelines. You can browse using voice, but it's still limited. You can go down the tree, but then you're scroll limited on the number of pages. Also, if you hit the back button then you're kicked out. As you said, making some playlists might be a decent workaround if you don't want to tag all files.

Yeah I use Playlist Creator and it's simple. I just added the folders I want that are already on the USB and then create a playlist like Oldies, RnB,HipHop, Gospel, Country etc then just tell Voice command to browse that playlist. If I want to select a song, it's still stupid but sort of works unless I have my phone plugged in and using CarPlay as Siri doesn't know about my USB drive.
Tired of this nanny state bs

Just an udate. I had my mom in the passenger seat today and while driving I tried to change folders and it popped up a screen asking if I was the passenger, press Yes and was able to switch between folders. So at least it's not totally locked out.

Also it appears just fastening the seatbelt doesn't get by it. I'm guessing it also has to have some weight in the seat.
