Thanks. Not entirely sure those answers apply in this situation. I'm pretty sure I met all conditions, plus the fuel economy gauge will tell you why ASS is not working at the moment but I am not getting any message there. Just says unavailable. Also ASS was working fine earlier on my drive.
I know when mine stopped working it was because my battery wasn't fully charged. Like you I wasn't getting any notices on the screen but I started using a battery maintainer (I usually don't drive a lot of miles so it never fully charges) and that seemed to help a lot. These darn things are so finicky it could any number of things but best to keep an aye on it so you're not stranded with a dead battery.

Battery is less than 2 months old from Ford. I may just take it in.

I'll try resetting the BMS to see if that fixes it first

Do you still have the ASS Indicator (Amber or Flashing Amber) with the unavailable msg?

This is telling you a fault in the system has it deactivated, you may try cycling the switch or scanning for a code, as with the amber indication it may show a code which will help in diagnosing the cause.

My hunch is you have a code (in history) related to the rough engine start; this code has the system deactivated it will most likely be related to the Accelerator Pedal / Throttle Body as this is one of the inputs for the ASS to function.

No amber light. I tried hitting the ASS button a few times. No change.

I agree the code has to be in history. True if the truck detects any engine issue it will stop ASS. I'll scan later today and report back.

Hope it's just a one off thing. Everything on the truck seems fine...

Yep, that definitely sounds FUBAR. I'd drop it off, and not pick it back up if that was the case. I just know that the gas and brake are much closer in height in this truck than in my Focus.

The amount of rev hang on the platform is also quite excessive in my opinion, but it should definitely calm down after at most 2-3 seconds. Sounds like something is broken.

Here's some ROW rangers that appear to exhibit the same problem.

Second edit. I watched both of the vids, and that's runaway diesel, not tires... my bad.
I have personally experienced the same behavior coming to a stop and the engine revving up. I had to dramatically press the brake to keep from going into traffic! It has only happened once, but I am still nervous about it. And I was NOT pressing the gas pedal. I was pushing that brake pedal and I barely held it in place. The engine finally slowed down to idle all by itself, but I refused to let up on the brake pedal even when it returned to idle.

It spooked me a great deal.

I have found that there is a lag from when you press the accelerator to when the truck begins to move and my theory is that if you change the inputs too quickly the drive by wire computer becomes confused.

Try this in an empty parking lot. Press (tap) the gas pedal moderately hard, then quickly change and press the brake.... as if you decide to pull out into traffic and have second thoughts at the last minute and change your mind. My 4G Ranger reacts like a mechanical vehicle would. My 2003 Maxima had a drive by wire throttle and behaved very much like the 2005 Ranger does.

I have noticed that my 2020 Ranger lags, and my 2023 Maxda CX-5 does so as well, but to a much lesser extant, it is barely noticeable. I no longer time my responses like I can in my 2005 Ranger. I need bigger openings in traffic with the 2020 Ranger. And the 2020 Ranger does not like indecision --- don't change your mind at the last second! It has been my experience that it does not react well in those situations.

Scanned my truck and got this error code. Any thoughts?

I cleared the code but haven't gone on a drive yet.

That is a generic code, however I believe others have had that code pop up, and it is related to aftermarket air induction, I would dive it after clearing it and see what it does.

But you may want to check all the intake tubing connections and air filter. I can't remember exactly but I think someone with that code found a hose clamp not secured. (Unsure if this is the exact code)
But if it comes back, it may be worth it just to check your connections.

Basically, the manuals are vague for this code, but I believe the PCM triggered the code as the rough engine start as a (engine stall)

Thanks. Yea this is my second Ranger I bought used, and from everything I see it all looks stock. 30k miles. When I took it to Ford to replace the battery they said they had no way to tell me if it's tuned....

I'll try driving home after work and see if I get any more issues.

Just drove it and all seemed fine....

Tried replicating same conditions with AC and music no. No problem. I was at a SLIGHT incline when I had the issue, not sure if that's it.

I hope it's a one off issue...

Just had this happen to me again today. Haven't scanned for codes but Auto Start/ Stop wasn't working for the rest of the drive. Getting concerned...

Do you drive mostly short trips? Have you tried to charge the battery using a smart charger with the positive clamp on the proper side of the battery module?

Not really. When this happened again I just was driving about 25 min.

About a month ago I went on like a 6 hour road trip.

Seems to be working fine today
