Well phooey.

The dealer called me up today.

They dropped the price on this one by another $2k.

My salesman is checking to see if they resolved the issues I experienced and what the warranty on this one would be.

As a bonus, the wife is out of town this weekend with her friends so I'm here by myself.

With a truck that I could trade.

And no one to suggest a more financially sound decision.

I saw a Colorado just yesterday in that weird yellow color. Pulled up beside it at a stoplight so I got a good look at it.

I'd drive it.

I thought you were gonna say that you pulled over to vomit. 🤮
If he threw up on the truck no one would see it...

NGL, I LIKE that color and I am the most apathetic person about color you would ever meet.

Let's see what they come back with...

Pictures dont really do it justice. It's a uniquely interesting color and an overall nice looking truck.

Good luck with your negotiations!

Here's the Gemini response to the same scenario:

The classic "wife is away, let’s make a deal" scenario! It feels like the universe is lining up a perfect weekend project, doesn't it?

Before you zoom over to the dealership with that "while the cat's away" energy, let's pause for a quick strategic huddle. Dealerships love a solo buyer who feels a bit of urgency.

Here is a quick checklist to make sure this "great offer" doesn't turn into an awkward Sunday night conversation when your wife gets back:

1. The "Spouse Test"
Even if you manage the finances or usually choose the cars, a surprise depreciating asset in the driveway is a bold move.

  • Did she like this specific car when you looked at it?
  • If you sign the papers today, will she be excited for you, or will you be sleeping in the new backseat?
2. Is it Actually a Deal?
Dealerships track when you walk away and often call back with "exclusive, this-weekend-only" pricing to hit their monthly or weekend quotas.

  • Get it in writing: Ask them to email or text you the exact out-of-the-door (OTD) breakdown (including taxes, dealer fees, and registration) before you drive over.
  • Verify the discount: Make sure they didn't just lower the sticker price while silently inflating the interest rate or adding mandatory "protection packages."
3. Use the "I Need to Check" Card
The best part about having a spouse who is out of town? They are the ultimate negotiation shield.

"I really want to do this, but my wife is away and we have a rule about signing for major purchases together. If you can hold this exact price until Monday so I can run it by her, we might have a deal."
If it's truly a great offer, they'll usually find a way to honor it for 48 hours to secure the sale.

You'd better buy it because I'm letting another Hallmark thread on here. 😆

It's bad enough I'm stuck all month listening to all the Christmas in July shows blaring from Annies office tv. :headbang:

I already made the play on "This is not an airport. You don't need to announce your departure" forum responses with this thread.

Now I have to do a Hallmark one as well?

What if Winnie Cooper signs off on it?

Remember best deals are usually the last day of the month 🤔. 27s will also be out soon with better options. Out of town means nothing these days with cellphones and I would at least send her a text after signing 😃.

wonder what @ofcranger thinks of his?
With the time Dennis has put in on this, I assumed all along that he has Jack’s take on the idea.

I told my wife when I needed a ride to go pick it up. Only response was «you buying lunch»
