I don't think I've ever heard the waste gate vent on the Ranger. The turbo is quite quite compared to big diesel turbos or sport cars with turbos that are meant to be heard for showing off. A lot of small engine turbo vehicles these days are actually designed to not be purposely noisy. In the heat of summer when the turbo has to work harder, that's whe I hear the turbo a little better.
I haven’t driven any other Rangers, so not sure what to expect. When I let off throttle after hard acceleration it feels like boost does not dump and engine keeps on spooling.

I dunno man. I'd take a step back and think about it.

So far, the dealer was responsive and proactive in going through the steps to do as much as they did. At least they found something without much pressure. So they aren't unwilling or uncooperative. It sounds like they just need to drive it some more.

Your transmission still isn't right, but that doesn't mean it can't be. Take it back, tell them it's still off, and go from there.

You've got a huge warranty on the truck. I don't know that I'd jump to get rid of it just because of a single (albeit frustrating) warranty experience. I mean, you got the warranty for the protection....so why run when you need the protection?

You could get this fixed and truck could be perfect forever.

I got frustrated for a minute with mine.....and I understand being mentally "over it".....but then I looked around at other trucks and quickly came to the same realization as when I decided to buy it in the first place - it's a damn nice truck and good value for the $ for power, size, efficiency and capability. I didn't want to spend more money buying another vehicle when I'm still covered with tens of thousands of miles of warranty. If you're going to go through the hassle of a buying experience all over again, I'd at least want to take one more stab on the transmission fix.

Unless, you can get a great deal on yours as a trade in...and then put it towards a newer Ranger that was manufactured after the 2022 cutoff.
Not sure of what the current market rate is for this truck in my area, I'll have to check. But I don't owe anything on the truck, I have the title. So, whatever I do get for it will go to the new truck.

I don't think they are trying to screw me or anything, I just don't want the hassle of this again in the future, even if they do fix it to like new operation. Having a trashed transmission after 22k miles mean no matter what they do I will always have the anxiety of "will I get stranded a thousand miles from home with a trailer that still needs to make it back home with me" others will feel differently. Something like this happing on a new vehicle that's only about 1/3 through its original manufacturers warranty gets it put on my NO list, especially with others having the same issues. As far as the extended warranty, well, I'm not in need of it because the factory base warranty still has nearly 40k miles left on it. Which means this thing could need two additional transmission overhauls before the lifetime warranty is even a benefit to me. Nah. I'm just done with it. Looking at the Silverado with the 3.0l diesel as a possibility. I'm far from having decided on what full size truck to get though. I'll be doing some research while I sell this truck. I am self employed and work almost entirely from home, plus I have other vehicles I can drive, so I'm fine letting it sit while I sell it. If it needs to go back to the dealer for more transmission work before its sellable, that's fine, don't really care. Whatever it takes to be able to sell it and have it not be my concern anymore.

can we clarify "trashed"?

I really don't think clunky shifts are a trashed transmission, but you keep making that statement.
Misfit had a trashed trans as his literally died inside and was no longer driveable.
Is yours driveable, and just annoying? that's not trashed imho.

I am referring to the problems found with it during the overhaul. I'd call that trashed. You can call it whatever you would like.

The tech lists drum bushings messed up and hot clutches but no mention of updated drum , which I thought was in the latest TSB , I hope to go through this soon on mine , just hesitant turn it over to them, and mine is good in Sport mode so I'm kinda waiting it out ...

Well, after researching the silverado with 3l turbo diesel, I have found out that it is pared with the "GM" Hydra-Matic 10L80 transmission. Which further reading says that it is literally the same transmission as the 10R80 and is made by Ford. What got me looking was a lot of transmission issues talk on some forums, then I noticed the 10L80 and thought it was awful close to 10R80... the search continues...

It isn't made by Ford, it was co-developed with Ford. They both build their own units and are responsible for their own tuning. But yes, they are very similar, there may well be some interchangeable parts, but identical they are not.

Final update:

Took my Ranger to a few places for some cash offers and trade in appraisals, didn't go great. The transmission is still shifting like garbage, hard as fuck with big delays between gears, and every place I took it noticed it. I wasn't really in the mood to schedule another trip to the Ford dealer and waiting for it to get fixed again. I found one dealer a couple hours away that gave me fair market value for it on account that they could get it fixed under warranty themselves before they sell it. So I did that and now I'm full size truck shopping. I'm no longer a Ranger owner and I'm not going Ford again. Best of luck with your Ranger's ya'll. I'm out!

UPDATE:

Picked up my truck this evening. Work done is as outlined in the attached picture.

I'm done with the ranger.
So the previous design CDF is/was an issue. If all they did was replace the bushing and not go to the new(er) design it simply sets up the truck for failure. If they put the clutches back in in spite of the hot spots it would seem nothing was actually done.

If on the other hand the bad/defective parts were replaced and the 'relearning' process is complete but the dealer won't continue to work with the issue - personally I'd look to other solutions. The 10R80 isn't going away and lots of vehicles use it. There are also lots of aftermarket and custom shops that are refining it.

If it costs 6-7 grand to do a fully custom rebuild that (hopefully) would last as long as I'd like to keep the truck I'll go that route than take the hit in trade in value.

I don't mind doing a little re-engineering where I see fit.

But that's OP's call.
