As much I think warranties are a load of crap in most cases, it did save us having to pay $7k for a transmission. That’s the ONLY reason we decided to get it. I had already been driving my ranger for a few years and the factory 65k mile warranty was already expired when I started having hard shifts with my transmission. I figured paying an extra few grand (or whatever the price was/is) for an extended warranty on her truck would save us some change if her transmission ever had issues. And it did…

I’d have to look at the paperwork again to see if it actually paid off or if it’s one of those “makes you feel good” things that we got suckered into. Either way, I’m still not happy about how this issue with the driveshaft carrier is being handled. Btw, dealership said they’d call us today with an answer whether or not the repair will be covered. Didn’t hear from them… Tried calling them on my lunch break, got hung up on. Excellent customer service! 👍
I think you need to find out which third party warranty you have and try to contact them directly about your situation.

Talked to the service advisor finally. He said he forgot to call me on Tuesday like he was supposed to “my bad”… He started throwing out numbers and parts and said what it should cost to repair.

I asked if it’s going to be covered under warranty? He said he still doesn’t know, but the driveshaft carrier assembly is back ordered anyway. They don’t know when it’ll be in stock.

Then he started talking about possibly replacing the entire driveshaft assembly or differential, mentioned the ujoints… Dude was basically rambling and had zero answers to anything.

I told him whatever they decide to do is their business, cost is irrelevant to me because (assuming this is covered) I’m not paying for it. He said he’ll call me when he finds out about the warranty or status of the back ordered parts.

Warranty Control to Dealer Tom
Warranty Control to Dealer Tom
Give this man a bill and tell him his warranty is gone

Warranty Control to Dealer Tom
Commencing countdown, Warranty gone,

Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five, Four, Three, Two, One, EXPIRED

This is Warranty Control to Dealer Tom
You’ve really made him pay !
And the papers show its all just wear and tear
Now it’s time to run his credit card,
if you dare!

This is Dealer Tom to Warranty Control
He just called us both assholes,
And he's cussing in a most peculiar way,
Some of these words I've never herd untill today!

For he just threw the bill in the tin can,
From far across the room,
But between just me and you there was plenty we could do...
Dum de dum de dum de dum dum 🎶 !
Just need to work "No Problem Found" in there multiple times and then host it on Spotify 🤪

Finally got an answer Friday afternoon. Service advisor called to let me know the warranty claim was approved, the bad news is the parts are still back ordered. I asked if he even had a ballpark guess when they’ll be in stock, he said he doesn’t have a clue.

What I’m not understanding is why they can’t get the parts in stock? I can order an OEM driveshaft carrier assembly from Leviton Ford (a certified Ford parts dealer) and have it shipped to my house by the end of next week. Why can a Ford dealership not get parts if I can…? Doesn’t make sense to me.

There’s more parts involved besides just the driveshaft. I believe that Ford is updating to the Tremor style driveshaft when replacing the standard 4x4 driveshaft. So that also means that the pinion drive flange and nut have to be changed. Along with all the mounting bolts on both ends. Just one piece of that puzzle being on back order can hold up the job.

What Steve said - (if they are actually upgrading to Tremor Style) may be a factor, but also have you verified (100%) that Leviton actually has it in stock - as you may encounter (pay) and then find a delay and (parts on backorder) - the online parts ordering is not always accurate
