?There's a couple members here who could benefit from going back to drivers school.:shock: Actually parking school but taking the whole course would probably be best for them.???
[/QUOTE]

I resemble that remark! :LOL:

Actually this is like a parking school as practical part contains parking but with a trailer. See, I’m contributing as much as I can ?

I honestly think that we should have more levels of license (and in general take driving training more seriously) in the US than we do.

Watching the average person drive pretty much anywhere is great evidence for this.
We have it like that:
  • AM (mopeds);
  • A (motorcycles);
  • B, C, D (motor vehicles);
  • BE, CE, DE (road trains);
  • and into their subcategories A1, B1, C1, D1, C1E and D1E.
  • In terms of the right to drive, tractors, mobile machinery and machine trains are categorised under one motor vehicle category in Estonia – T.
B is for cars and includes smaller pickup trucks and vans by weight.
To get license for more weight for road train I need to add BE. I can’t drive anything with full weight by manufacturer over 3500 kg.
All categories need driver school and exams.

Just towed my boat 550 miles round trip. You'll be glad of that license one day.
Show us your photos in action.

Parking lessons and pain killers for me and the teacher first, then exams and then maybe one day there will be some photos to show ?
Nice picture with sunset!

In some days there will be 1 year of this adventure with my FFR. It’s been fun and bumpy 30 000 kilometers, both, mostly fun and learning.
As it’s been a constant struggle with lack of room in the bed, I finally registered myself back to drivers school. After some trainings and 4 exams I’ll be finally legally allowed to tow enough weight as it finally really makes sense to connect something to my Ranger ?
Just a regular driver license limits my tow weight so much at the moment because the truck itself weights too much. Heavier pick up trucks over 3500 kg register mass need truck driver license not the one to drive cars with. I need an additional license category to tow bigger trailers and boats to make this Ranger fully work.
30 000 km on her and the engine has broken in very well, runs good.
Some of you may remember when I joined this forum - I had literally no idea what to do, how to really use it or what I’ve bought. I probably must be the most stupid beginner Ranger owner in the history. One year later I’m ready to tow a boat if needed, but it probably drops few times during the process ?
Baby truck times are over!
You GO Girl!....

Best,
Phil

Yeah, that's a pretty thorough classification.

I've had a fair bit of extra driving training through work. When I worked for the US Forest Service, I got some basic 4wd instruction. I've had some instruction on pulling lightweight trailers in my current job (honestly, nothing I didn't already know, so it was more observation of me hooking up and driving with a trailer, backing up a trailer, etc). Driving a box truck for another job. Operating equipment (tractor, skid steer, mini-excavator, mini-skid, etc) in another. Extra defensive driving classes (required to drive a state vehicle when I was in graduate school), also. Not much of that was formal instruction. And there's really no formal record of any of the training I've had, either.

Here ya go Kristina....as crazy as it sounds and looks, you do not need a special license, or even training to buy and pull rigs like these. Their considered private/not for hire and do not need any special certification to drive one on any highway in the US, unless exempt by local road provisions.
Even crazier, any one with a valid state operators license, including

I was curious - I looked to see if there were any lessons I could sign up for to learn how to safely tow a large trailer and the closest thing I could find was RV driving school / Commercial Trucking School in Nevada, USA. I imagine I could find someone to teach me privately if I were so motivated. See Kristina, you're always provoking new thoughts in my head with your unique experiences in Estonia.

That seems insane. As I understand insurance is not mandatory?
Kind of crazy if someone who is not able to handle a rig causes an accident..

Anyway, I’ll get “limited” license still. 12 meters is max length of road train (will ask what to do if I need longer one) and my truck technical passport limits overall weight to 6000 kg. Using some other vehicles max weight is up to 7000 kg. So you see, the law works absolutely different here. The tickets are solid and finally you end up in jail if repeatedly busted driving around without correct license category.
Btw, even kids have to get bicycle driver license, but this is not so harsh as attitude about owning a correct driving license category.

Just name it and I will find you a course in here to get a license! :D
You want to get a job at fork lift? Get a license first. Not hard, but must be done.
For getting car driver license there is a need for final step training also or the license will be suspended.
I don’t know about the rules about water vehicles but I guess everything with an engine probably needs a license to operate.

Ha ha, my Ranger related understandings are so affected by US as no one I personally know drives Ranger here. It’s been an educational year for me in many senses.

Seems your options about trucking trainings are limited, soon I can train you myself ?

Few memories.

This was Toyota Hilux I checked out some years ago before Ford and finally refused of. On the picture composed just like it was meant to be ordered. Yes, with shell and maybe there will be a shell on my truck in the future.

And here’s the absolutely first picture of my truck when it arrived.

There is no pictures ever been with empty bed.
First day and 5 hours after pick up from dealer. Same belt has earned me well for many years.

Part of first order. I had no idea it was just a beginning:facepalm:

Saw black wildtrack with Estonian plates few days ago and immediately thought "That's Kristina's Wildtrack", then I figured that Kristina is probably not a male with an 5mm haircut.

Oh, insurance is mandatory. Now, checking/enforcement is probably not what you're used to. most places don't do insurance checks (a few do) before there's a problem, to verify that you have it. rather, they check for insurance AFTER a problem has occurred, and then penalties are additive for being uninsured.

Just name it and I will find you a course in here to get a license! :D

Yeah, I don't think a system exactly like you have is the sort of thing I think I'd like to see in the US. But, more care to training/education (less so the specific licenses for different categories, but I do think there should be something on the licensure side to account for very large noncommercial vehicles, especially the arrangements pictured by Grumpaw above) would be good, I think.

When I got my driver's license, I took a driver's education course and had a learner's permit for awhile. Because I took that course, I got a waiver so I didn't need to take the practical driving test with a state assessor to get my license. But I still did have to take the written exam. I think the logic was that the state wanted to incentivize taking driver's education courses like what I took (I took mine through my school during the summer), where in order to pass the course, I had to pass a practical driving test with the instructor present. I think the laws have changed since, and it's not done that way anymore. Since then, I have only had to take any kind of training/test to renew my license once. And that was because that one year, I renewed my license a month early because of scheduling conflicts and I wouldn't be in the state at the time I otherwise needed to renew. They made me take a written test that year in order to renew.
