$82.58 for an air filter? You guys are nuts.
It's expensive. But it's cheaper than buying mishimoto filters. I don't believe in washing and reusing. You may think I'm nuts and you can have your opinion I don't give a crap. If I had a stock box I would use a motorcraft. For the f150 I use all cheap stuff but this is my toy.

i prefer motorcraft or wix. avoid fram seems to be the trend. project farm on you tube has some really great air and oil filter videos with a lot of info / comparison.
i have a k&n in my 5g but simply due to it coming with the ford performance pack for the ranger as the recommended filter. i also clean it and oil it way more than the box says as i dont trust its filtration ability.
I would ditch that K&N Mark.....I ran one for about 50K and I'm convinced they are not good for our turbo system on the 2.3L...
I also run a tune (not Ford) and I believe that you can't use any extra airflow based on the off-the-shelf tuning. So why have anything other than the factory filter.....it gives plenty of volume.

I had no idea the cost of those, especially the Mishimoto air filters. Hopefully for those prices you are seeing noticable gains in HP or fuel economy.

They are expensive because of the ability to wash and reuse. I just replace it once a year. I start rally racing with the truck soon so I'll see if I get significantly more dirt in the filter.

The stock box is great but once you start squeezing out power the mishimoto performance box is a great upgrade. You can read the R&D on it. 50% more volumetric flow rate over stock.

Here's the link to the different articles as they go through research and design. As a manufacturing engineer with both a mechanical engineering and advanced manufacturing degree, I can appreciate the 3D scanning as we use it for missiles at work. Speaking on behalf of metrology, mishimoto seems to have some fine instruments at their disposal to aid in engineering.

Again the stock box is great and I can't mention R&D without giving praise to Ford's engineers. Ford has deep pockets to invest a ton into the Ford ranger and it is great out of the box. Once you start wanting more power there is a combination of upgrades that go hand in hand and certainly never end.

And yes my truck is very fast with 35's and 450 pounds in the bed.

im certain the stock paper style stop more dust and dirt than the k&n. but at this point i dont think i will have the 5g to 50k.

K&N, just don’t over oil it.
Had one on my old Sport Trac for 200,000 miles, no issues. Little to no performance gain but you’ll save money over time.
Otherwise a paper Wix, NAPA Gold, Motorcraft, are perfectly fine.
Fram oil filters suck but the air filters are okay.

Sadly, I may be done with Ford products after the 5g with their new marketing strategy. I'm not about to pay these additional mark-ups so the dealers can cash in on the new "no lot inventory" situation.

There are plenty of other folks that make as good or better vehicles that don't pull that crap!!
