A/C Condenser Clutch replacement

Has anyone else had the A/C compressor clutch replaced on their Ranger? My A/C suddenly stopped working and the belt was smoking on the compressor and squealing. The dealership is in the process of replacing the clutch, however, why would a clutch fail so fast? The truck is a 2021 Tremor and i have had many issues since the vehicle was new, from the replacement of the driveshaft to alignment issues. They also replaced all four General Grabber tires due to that alignment that caused all four tires to camber wear. The running boards were also replaced due to pealing. What kind of quality is this? My 2011 was more reliable. I am not very happy customer, however i am very happy i bought a 150,000 km warranty.

It is pretty easy to tell whether it is the clutch or the compressor. If it squeals whether the clutch is energized or not its the clutch. If it squeals only when the clutch is energized it is the compressor.

The pulley rides on its own bearing independent of the compressor, so it is quite conceivable that bearing failed and has seized. For lack of a better term the clutch disk is attached to the compressor shaft. The coil is mounted behind the pulley and acts as an electro magnet to pull the disk against the pulley when energized.

When I was at Nissan I did replace many AC clutches. That said there was usually a good reason. The only time I was usually replacing the clutch is because the magnet itself failed. Hopefully it's not the compressor itself

What month was it built? Mine was right before the plant shut down for COVID. I found an extra bolt in the engine bay. One of my running boards has a missing spot. Due to a rock though.

Not uncommon. My 2016 Subaru Forester needed a new A/C compressor due to a bad clutch within the first year. The good news is now the A/C works great on that vehicle, even at 8 years old.
