lol well with VGK being a new team the year we moved here, when they built the rink 8 min down the road, we thought it would be fun to teach them to skate. That is where they got us. Like $300 and they gave the kids all the gear needed to play. Not so now at 10 years old.Wow that has got really expensive since I played. I started playing at 6 all the way through high school and played in several summer leagues too. Our town team use to travel up the Montreal and then the next year they'd come down and we'd stay with the kids on the team which saved money. We made one trip to Philly to play with the Jr Flyers one year and id the same thing there. I don't remember the costs (I do remember sticks being like $10-$12 though) but I remember having to get most of my gear new just about every year from outgrowing it up until my teens where it was every 2-3 years. I'm sure the ice time is one of the biggest expenses now with the cost of electricity, insurance and maintenance now.
PS, you should've got them into tennis or golf. lol
One my my boys has a $280 Bauer Pulse stick he loves and his backup stick was on sale, a CCM Trigger 9 for $180 lol These sticks aren't necessary but when he was younger the then $160 stick the right length and low enough flex that he could flex it and I figure its cheaper than my hobbies so why not.
We are lucky that there are so many teams in town, we dont need to travel. The upper division he is in has travel kids in it too so he still gets good competition. This spring he will be on a tournament team for the first time along with his brother, so that will be fun. Think 2 games in Vegas and one out of state.
I always wanted to play roller hockey in the 90s in so cal but parents said it was too expensive. Now I know what they meant lol
