My experiences with O2 sensors taught me that it is easier to remove the down pipe with the cat/O2 sensor and put in on a vise, then heat/liquid wrench the sensor out, granted this was with the downpipe of my '88 BMW (which took all that to pull the old O2 sensor out), but when I needed to replace the one in my 98 Ranger I did the same...curiously it was the outer O2 that went first, but after 120k miles...
