Hey guys. So thanks so much for helping me determine the normal HPFP noises in my previous post.

It's -25°C here in Alberta and I have been remote starting my truck for at least 5 minutes before hitting the road.

Today I again remote started it before going for lunch and I started hearing a very distinct tick noise that sounds like lifter tick. I've got a good video of the sound that I have put in the thread.

Before I panic that I'm 2000km past powertrain warranty, can you guys replicate this tick? If it's normal then fine but if not then... Houston, we have a problem.

Should note that is at operating temperature, had the oil changed today and it sat inside all day at room temp, noise still present

So its ticking. I would try and get something that can read AFR etc... Could be Direct Injector bad/clogged. Could be high pressure fuel pump. Any CELs. Does it go away when driving etc...? Any drivability issues. Does it worse on higher RPM?

No CEL at this time. Can confirm 100% through other videos I had of the truck (Camera was right near the grille) while camping in the summer, that tick was not present then.

Can barely hear it in the cab, it correlates to engine RPM. As far as I know there are no current drivability issues at this time, however I travel a lot for work and the last thing I would want is being stuck on the side of the road in this cold.

I thought all our Rangers sounded like that, no?
The sewing machine noise I am not worried about at all, It's that very distinct tick that I have somewhat traced to the top end of the engine using a stethescope.

Here is a video of a ranger engine provided to me by a reddit user:

I would Google 2.3l Ecoboost ticking sound. it's an engine that's been around for a long time. see what others have said. could be valve train noise which could be catastrophic if ignored.

Video recordings can be deceiving as they can amplify certain sounds more than others. The tick I hear sounds valvetrain related based on the frequency of the tick.

That one is going to need some more in person diagnostics to pinpoint the source of the noise and to determine if it is normal or not. No need to get spun up with internet diagnostics, just get it diagnosed at a trusted shop.

That does sound like a lifter noise to me. Mine doesn't do that or I'd be taking it to the dealership to have it fixed. Do you have extended warranty?

The video links you are posting are private - you'll need to go into Google drive, I recommend perhaps taking one more safety step and isolate that video into a folder called "Ranger5g" and then set the permissions for the video to public. Otherwise I need to email you and ask for your permission to see it.

UPDATE!

Used what little tech diag knowledge was left in my brain and a former Ford colleague and I put our heads together. With engine running, we pulled the oil cap, the noise did not get any louder as a valvetrain type tick would. Using a stethoscope, we probed different areas of the front cover. The alternator belt idler pully is noisy as all hell and had a fair bit of grease caked on it, so good to fair chance that bearing has gone.

Got home from work today and pulled both belts off. After reinstalling the AC belt with the alternator belt removed, securing the area and starting the engine, the noise is gone *whew*.

I have the new pulley, but in order to remove it I need to loosen or remove the fan and clutch assembly from the AC belt idler pulley. Does anybody here know if that is a normal thread or a left handed thread? (I am pretty sure its a left handed thread) Additionally, does anybody know the size of the wrench I'll need to remove that monster of a nut? I am going to go rent the tool tomorrow as I do not have a big enough wrench.
