2019 ranger xl 86000 miles coolant disappearing

So I noticed after popping the hood about a week ago that the coolant res was bone dry. I never saw any overheating at any point. I filled it up to the max line and checked it yesterday and it was well below the min line. Filled it again and it's low once again. I can't find a single leak anywhere. The oil dipstick looked normal, no white residue around the engine, no sweet smell from the exhaust. I had a check engine light for the dpfe sensor around the same time but the sensor was on backorder and should come in tomorrow. Could these issues be related?

A leaky head gasket or EGR cooler leak could be the issue. If water is getting into the EGR line, it could be the cause of the DTC code for the DPFE sensor. Check for coolant in the cylinders by checking the spark plugs for being wet.

I can't remember off the top of my head but its the same code for the dpfe sensor that everyone was complaining about causing the "bucking/surging" I have it printed somewhere, I'll check when I'm home.

I would Pressure Test the System (Including the Cap) as a bad cap can cause missing coolant (Pressure) Issue

If you have P139C, which is the common DPFE Code and IF RELATED then I suspect a leaking EGR Cooler, letting coolant into the EGR System through the EGR Valve.

Now checking the rubber hoses at the DPFE may be misleading for wetness as there is most likely moisture in the sensor, but if it is indeed coolant - then it's coming from the EGR Cooler

So, if it is just moisture (water droplets) - Ok but if its coolant (Not Ok)

The easiest spot to confirm without pulling the EGR Valve is the EGR Backpressure Sensor - that mounts in the EGR Cooler - Stand-Off Tube

EGR Valve Mounts (at the blue gasket) on the EGR Cooler

The EGR Backpressure Sensor - is the sensor in the pic

The EGR Tube - that routes to the back of the engine and feeds the DPFE Sensor connects to the EGR Valve itself, and when it opens its feeds that tube.
So, depending on the severity of the leak, will determine how much coolant you can see here or if that sensor is wet.

This is possibly a easier way than pulling the EGR Valve itself and inspecting for coolant entry into the EGR Valve ports. (The Blue) Gasket and the matching EGR Valve Port

Many moons ago I had a 1993 Escort wagon, that blew a head gasket. It blew out not in. Have you checked for an external leak?

I decided to take it to a friends shop this morning to have it pressure tested. Unfortunately didnt have time to check the egr today myself and I trust his ability way more than my own but he pretty much said the same as you. I forgot to mention that after the initial lowering of the coolant level, I did in fact replace the reservoir cap. Thank you all for the info. Just waiting on the call at this point.

So apparently the egr is bad but they're on "indefinite backorder". Anyone know a reputable source?

You'll have to swap the hoses over yourself. There are at least a dozen threads here on how-to.

The sensor and hoses I was able to get my hands on. The cooler seems to be the hard to get bit.

My experience with them was not good. They said they had my brake caliper in stock and cancelled my order two days later with no explanation. Took many phone calls to find out that they didnt actually have it and that was just a month ago. Im trying ford oem parts and seeing if I get screwed. From what I can tell, the dealer they're shipping from seems legit.
If you are talking about Ford OEM Parts Direct - they are Legit - I use them and are a local dealer, they have 1 or 2 people dedicated to the OnLine Site, so if you just walk in and purchase- you get the Dealer Mark up price - so I buy online and pick up at the dealer, cheaper and no shipping charges.
