I purchased a used 2019 Ford Ranger Lariat a couple of weeks ago from an out-of-state Ford Dealer. The dealer inspected vehicle and sold it to me as a fully Gold Certified truck. The vehicle also still has factory warranty remaining.

A few days after I arrived back home, I noticed that the keypad on the door was not working. I figured that it was still covered under the original bumper to bumper warranty remaing on the truck. I scheduled an appointment my local Ford dealer to have it replaced. I was charged $194 for the part and installation. I was told that Ford's warranty department denied coverage for the cost supposedly because the unit is battery powered and considered to be a "disposable" item. I am now working on contacting the corporate warranty office to get an explanation. In my case the keypad was listed on the original window sticker as an option at a cost of $85, implying that it was a factory installation.

The keypad is a wireless unit that is attached to the driver side door with 3M double sided tape, and operates soley on the basis of an internal battery, contained in a completely sealed case. Ford's part number is KB3Z 14A626 B and is listed as an actuater assembly. In addition to the issue with the keypad being denied as a warranty item, I have tried to enter a personal key code to use as an alternative to the factory access code that comes on a card in the box with the new keypad. I an unable to establish a personal code using the sequences that can be found on the internet.

So, I have basically have two questions. Has anyone been successful in getting a replacement keypad, under the original factory warranty, for 2019+ Rangers? Secondly, has anyone been successful in creating a personal securicode to use in lieu of the factory code? If so, what keypad sequence did you use to set a personal code?

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Almost positive the keypad is not factory installed. Probably dealer installed and therefore not covered by factory warranty. It would be up to the selling dealer to cover it under any kind of warranty.
Here is a link to the programming
How do I program a personal keyless entry code? (ford.com)

Thanks for the response. I tried the sequence you gave a link to several times but was unable to get it to take. Is it possible that the computer needs to be set to allow personal codes?

If the keypad was on the original sticker, then it was factory installed and should be covered by the basic 3/36 warranty.

In fact, there was a bad batch of keypads that required replacement because they rapidly consumed batteries.

I just followed the instructions that came with it. I bought mine at the dealer. I think the battery life is estimated to be about 7 years. Less if you use it a lot. But yours seems to have died way early. Side note, there is a setting in the menu on the dash to unlock all doors with a single press of either the key fob, door button or keypad. This will save one extra push of the keypad to make it last just a wee bit longer, hopefully, that's my story.

I bought one and followed the instructions...It would not program and it indicated some Rangers will have to have the dealer program. My local dealer quoted $196 to program...so it is an expensive paperweight now... F**k the dealer....

best,
Phil
