It looks like I need new brake pads on the rears.

What is the recommended procedure for doing this?

1) Replace the Pads?
2) Resurface rotors and replace pads?
3) Replace the rotors and the pads?

Thanks,
John
Unfortunately I just had to replace my rear brake pads and rotors at just 43k.
Not impressed, I have never had to replace rear brake’s before the front and never at such low miles. I do not do much stop and go driving and have only towed an enclosed two place snowmobile trailer a few thousand miles.

Okay so dealer resurfaced rotors and did new pads for under $300. Local tire store wanted $400 to do the same work and weren't confident they could properly resurface the rotors. I think because the tire store doesn't have the right tool. Chalk this up as a win for the dealer!

I'm just over 70k miles and my rear brake wear indicators seem to be squeeking. I am thinking about going with PowerStop Z23 carbon fiber ceramic as replacements for $174 for pads and rotos.

Decided to go Bosch QuietCast, $144 shipped from rockauto for rear pads and fully coated rotors.

i'm about to do the same. i saw they had a 10% discount on bosch products.

Bosch Quietcast pads and rotors on all 4 corners -- $310 shipped.
Motorcraft pads and rotors on all 4 corners -- $434 shipped.

The only thing giving me hesitation is I want to read some more about Akebono brake pads. Supposedly they're better than Bosch, but rock auto doesn't sell that same brand rotor.

Akebono brake pads with Raybestos Rotors on all 4 corners - $320 shipped.

Anyone have any advice on Bosch vs the Akebono/Raybestos combo?

High end Raybestos is also very good quality, I wouldn't hesitate too much

Had the truck in for a pre winter / post summer-fall alignment. They confirmed my rear pads are GONE at 70k miles. Doing the rears with the Bosch QuietCast this weekend.

Well this was a surprise. The inner right pad was down to metal. They wore completely unevenly from the factory! There was also a TON of air in that caliper when I bled it. 70k miles original brakes. It ruined the rotor so I’m glad I had new ones coming anyway. The driver side was fine and wore evenly.

It was kind of an annoying brake job to do the rears. The ratchet cheap adapter I got to wind the calipers was not easy to use and was too soft of metal so it was basically consumed once both sides were done. Also the slide springs make the pads tricky to load in the caliper brackets.

Also PSA for Ranger spongey brakes — bleed them the old fashioned way!!! I used my old MightyVac and the pedal is absolutely firmer now. The FORScan routine doesn’t do anything by itself unless you actually bleed them. Used less than a small bottle of DOT4 and I’m good to go.
