Goodmorning,

2018 Wildtrack 3.2.

I have a weird noise. I cant say its a knock but its weird. Only happens between 2-2.5k rpm. Never on Idle. Not always there but 70% of the time.

Only on acceleration. As soon as foot is off the throttle its gone.

Any idea before I start digging.

Thanks

You may be waiting a while for an answer to that question. Most users here are North American based and have the 2019-2023 Ranger with the 2.3 ecoBoost. We didn't get that engine option or even a Ranger in 2018. Though, I love the Thunder edition you have in the UK.

Does it happen only under load?

Dave, does it occur with the vehicle in neutral too? Can you grab video of the sound?

I would check the serpentine belt and/or exhaust heat shields first. I’ve seen issues with both producing weird resonant frequencies in a given RPM range on other vehicles, especially under acceleration.

How many KMs? Last fuel filter change? Could be a single fuel injector issue or low fuel pressure. Diesels clatter, and any inconsistency with the clatter could be a misfire. Knock that is not a knock would lead me to think its an off tone diesel sound.

Scan for codes and or Live Data and see if potential cylinder misfire is being picked up - my first initial thought is - Bad Injector
