10 ply's aren't really the way to go if you want "road friendly".
Beat me to it. At most you want 6 ply Load Range C.

Lol the tires I habe now are 10 ply and did not destroy fuel mileage what so ever. Must be the type of tire(mud terrain for example) and/or your driving habbits.
Ten-ply or 6-ply 10 ply rated?

This thread and the last weekends pasture experiment got me thinking..

BKT makes somewhat agressive treads, and MP-567 is rated to 90km/h (55mph) which would be pretty ok in my truck as it's speed limited to 90km/h anyway.

It also comes in size of 10.5-18 (which equates near to 270/83R18) so it's bit thinner (15mm) and taller (70mm) than the stock 285/70R17 tires.

Has anyone tried this kind of swap? How's the road handling? mpg? Alternatives?

Mist be an overseas model(non US). Could have sworn that even the raptor was 265/70-17.
I think US doesn't have Ranger Raptor yet..

But anyway, here's the info on tires (in Finnish).

Good to know, and you are correct. Here in the states we do not have a Ranger Raptor at this time.

I do a lot of highway driving getting to a from locations. No way would I want to deal with "E" tires. I'll choose smoother lines off road and stick with my Pirelli's.

I got the Toyo Open Country A/T 3s in the 6ply C load flavor and so far so good. Fairly quiet and does well off road. Didn't kill my MPG either. I will say the C ratings were hard to find.

The problem is he's on 18s and from what I've looked at there just aren't a lot of options with a 6 ply C load. He didn't specify why he wanted a 10 ply tire so none of us should be guessing as to why that's what he wants. I think about the only tires I've seen that are in the C load range are the Toyo Open Countrys.

Anyway, it's his truck and he can put whatever tires he wants on it for whatever reason he wants. But there are lots of options with a E load range wich will usually be 10 ply from what I've seen. The BFG KO/2, Falken WildPeaks and the Nitto Ridge and Terra Grapplers to name a few of the more popular ones it seems.

My AT3 XLT's didn't destroy the ride quality or decrease my mpg.
The ride is noticeably firmer when hitting road ruts and potholes, but it's not harsh or excessive.
And it's possible the mpg went down a bit, as I don't track it. I can't see how it couldn't when the 2 tires are compared side by side, but it didn't go down enough that I noticed it.
