That's a great article Billy and really explains how this transmission works. Amazing how many steps you're supposed to go through after having it replaced or worked on. Sid @Msfitoy you should read through this and ask the dealer if they performed this step when you got your new one.

This is the first time I've seen the "adaptive strategy"...why wasn't this printed in bold letters and attached to the dash of every new Ranger?

This is the first time I've seen the "adaptive strategy"...why the hell wasn't this printed in bold letters and attached to the dash of every new Ranger?!?! Is this even important?

Because everyone would rather repost the same wrong information that 'the transmission learns your driving style'.

Simple fact is, yes you can clear the adaptive tables, and yes, the transmission will eventually re-learn the adaptives even just driving it, but it will be non-optimal and take longer.

Is adaptive learning procedure done for every 10R80 rolling off the assembly line?...guessing not...

Likely not, but there is probably a standard baseline that the trans is set to since everything is brand new and in a perfect world 'as built' for one brand new transmission should be as close to 'exactly like' the next one with only very minor adjustments. Once you get in to rebuilds and miles on the unit, things change almost immediately.

Granted, you and I both know that in the real world there are probably differences between two 'identical' units, so there is probably wiggle room built into the initial programming for that.

A reset/relearn is going to be done when the unit either has miles on it, or has been rebuilt/repaired, which would throw any initial programming right out the window, so it would be like teaching a brain injury patient to walk again. The legs might be the same legs, but they're not going to work exactly the same.
