Have has my Ranger Lariat FX4 for two weeks now. I have just noticed the truck never goes into 2nd gear. From a stop the truck goes 1st to 3rd and revs fairly high before shifting but skips second. On braking truck drops from 3 to 1st. Has anyone else noticed this. This should be aproven transmission

I've had mine use second - usually when I'm accelerating fast - but usually it goes 1-3-5-6-7-8...

Mine does the same if I drive it normal. If I give it more gas or use sport mode it uses 2. Nothing to worry about.

After a few thousand miles I see it use 2nd more often. (Then it skips 3 and goes to 4.)

The transmission is designed to skip gears when load does not require it.

Even my Vette had skip shifting. There is an aftermarket module to eliminate the skipping of gears

My experience has been, more and more, if you don't get an error code and the vehicle moves, the service manager will say it's behavior is normal.

It's just transmission shift strategies to get the best fuel economy for the given load. If you're in sport mode, it goes through all the gears all the time. In D, it'll skip gear and usually keep revs as low as possible. As long as you're not getting any consistent lurching or dramatic shifts, the transmission is normal.
