When I first moved to AZ back in January of 2016 gas there was $1.60/gal. It didn't last long but it was nice to fill up for around $25.00. When I first started driving it was .85/gal so adjusted for inflation (45 years) it's really not all that bad right now.

Seeing as you didn't live in AZ back in '16 or in MA back in the 80's you mostly likely wouldn't remember it. As you know gas around the country is always different from state to state because of their gas tax. When I left Arkansas it was over a dollar cheaper than it is here. The Phoenix area is usually .50 - .75 more than the Tucson area because they get their fuel from the California refineries where we get ours from Texas.

I resided in AZ from 2008-2019 for 11 years way to long sir. It was an experience I wouldn't recommend to others

I did know that. IIRC it was right before the election when gas went down to $1.60 as they always try and make people think the one in office is trying to lower the price. It was pretty stable (in the Goodyear area) around $1.80 - $2.00 for quite some time then as usual fluctuates with whatever going on in the world.
