Got dedicated winters installed today. Went with a set of Michelin Latitude x-ice. Originally I thought I would ride out this winter on the Hankooks, but after a couple dumps of wet snow and temperatures that were repeatedly thawing and then freezing I found myself sliding around more than I'd like. Damn Canadian Winters eh!

No studs on the Michelins? I miss the days I spent in Idaho winters, but always had to swap out to studded tires.

No studs for this city slicker! I'm not sure exactly the laws around here, but the roads are bad enough that I wouldn't want to contribute making them worse. I also think about how far the technology in these tires have come. We are blessed with the chinook weather on this side of the mountains, but also cursed when it constantly freezes over again each night. So far I like how the new tires have softened up the stiff ride. And hopefully I don't have to truly put them to the test in an 'oh shit' situation.

Hi Phil,

I read this to fast the first time. I thought you said the crack of my butt brought out the wife and neighbor. I was thinking that's how he gets all these handyman jobs. :giggle:

I use that for everything!
Okay....You only need two things in the shop...WD40 and Duct Tape. If it moves and shouldn't, stop it with duct tape...if it does not move and should, use WD40!

Back Story....

I was a trackside official for the Indy Car series for some 22 years... We were in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Brazilians had fabricated an Roval and we were to have help from the local Racing club....so I got three Brazilians at my post. One of the fellows spoke very good English. I do not speak Portuguese, the native language. The chain link fence was cut for us to look out at the cars....the sharp edges were a problem for us so I radioed to my friend, Willy for some duct tape to help out as he brought a roll of it as was his custom. So the on track service vehicle stopped at Willy's post and picked up the duct tape. The truck then dropped the tape at my post so I could line the sharp edges of the chain link. Wouldn't yo know but this roll of tape was Duck Brand Duct tape. So the English speaking Brazilian saw the tape and inquired "why do you tape ducks?"
My answer was "so they cannot move". There was a nod of approval and translation to Portuguese for the other fellows...who nodded in understanding... And so the race began and I was not able to again tell them it was a joke.... Sigh.... I always wonder if they still talk about the crazy Americans that tape Ducks...

Phil,
I made it to as many Cart/Champ car races as I could back in the day. Indy, Michigan, Road America, Mid Ohio, Phoenix, Detroit. I bet being an official was awesome. Just after the IRL split we went to MIS. At morning practice they opened up the pits to fans. We had paddock passes but they gave us "Hot Pass" access. NASCAR likes to claim great fan access but not like this. That is a much younger and a bit fatter me in the yellow shirt. I enjoy your stories. You should start a thread "Phils Stories". I bet you have some great racing stories to tell. I think that guy in the black shirt photo bombed me.

Got the Line-X spray in liner and had them install a TruckGear by Linex LXP hard folding tonneau cover. Also installed the tailgate damper.
