Faster with full tank?

I’ve noticed the throttle on my truck seems more responsive with a full tank of gas. If I get down, for example, to 50 miles remaining on the tank it seems more sluggish. Is this in my head or does the truck maximize fuel economy if it’s getting lower on gas? I haven’t noticed a hard cutoff point when this happens but I have noticed that the truck wants to fly out of a gas station in comparison to how it drove in. Could be in my head! E93 gas

Since most modern day fuels are trash, as the needle moves towards full, the flux capacitor is re charged as seen in the movie. Once that baby hits 88 mph, it's back on baby!!

You probably subconsciously drive more conservatively when you're low on fuel.

It definitely rides better with a full tank putting some weight on the rear suspension. Less jittery and smoother.

With <50 miles left maybe you are just experiencing fuel starvation during WOT with the emptier tank.

I’ve noticed this too on several cars I’ve owned. Lower than 1/4 of a tank tends to gradually get crappier. It’s like the engine is sluggish and doesn’t sound quite right. I try not to let it get that low but have in the past before the Ranger so the phenomenon, whether it’s just perception or not, isn’t Ranger specific. And yes, WOT is the most obvious way to experience this.

Yeah, I would tend to think that vehicles would be lighter and therefore faster (and/or get better mileage) as the tank empties. This could be tested, of course, but I am not sure why anyone would bother....

I would say that I'm curious but have no motivation to actually find out as there are a lot of other variables that could affect any "tests" done. I'll just not let the tank get below 1/4 and call it problem solved
