I'm struggling with if I should go with a 2020 Fx2 or a regular 4x2 with the rear locker option.
I don't think I have a real need for 4x4 as we really don't get that much snow in central Ohio but I like the idea of a rear locker as a compromise between the two.
The Fx4 sport is appealing to me visually so naturally i'd like the Fx2 sport.

Financially I'd like to get the most for less. The Fx2 package is only $600 vs the rear locker option on it's own at $500.

The FxX will look good. Not sure I'd like the offroad suspension tune though.

I am planning on getting the tow package to tote a Kubota BX23S tractor around on a 14' or 16' trailer for the extent of towing which would be uncommon.

My concerns are the locker being a benefit in towing situations and maybe in some situations where we do get snow. Fx2 being a cheap way to get the locker along with some nice 4x4 features. Are there major visual differences in 4x2 sport and Fx4 sport since 98% of you have 4x4 or Fx4? :like:

The locker is only good up to like 10-15 mph.

Will auto shut off after that.

And the fx suspension is bouncier than standard on the highway.

Dont think its worth it in your case for a sticker and front skid plate.

I went STX 4x4 with rear locker over the FX4, but i am in the NE Ohio snow belt.

What? The locker will disengage at a certain speed? That doesn't sound right. Dont you have to be stopped to lock and unlock it?

Also, I wont buy a truck without a skid plate unless it has a lot of ground clearance. I've ripped off too many air dams on snow drifts. A skid plate has become a selling point for me.

I don't have a need for fx4 and have gotten away without 4x4 for 20 years. I think the Fx4 looks great with sport (for my taste) and would think a rear locker would be more useful than open diff.
Why do we scrutinize this way. Arrrrgh. Perils of buying a vehicle once every 13 years

Yes it will disengage on its own at a certain speed - I don’t remember what that speed is.

I’d say get the FX2. For $100 you definitely get your money’s worth! The skid plate alone is worth more than that.

To prevent you from pulverizing your gear ring. Locker isn’t the same as LSD. I’d like to find a LSD for this rear end.

I believe you get the different "off road" cluster in the dash of the FX-2 as well..

And that is probably my main question is what is the ride quality difference in the 'off-road tuned suspension' and the regular 4x2 suspension.
Only way to determine that is drive an Fx4 and an 4x2 and try to figure it out I suppose

The locking diff is well worth the money, it has got me unstuck 3 times already. Many report the FX4 suspension (same as FX2) bounces even more than the 2WD suspension. You may find you like the 2WD gauge cluster better.

I drove the Fx4 and a 4x4 and could definitely fell a difference in the ride. It wasn't dramatic but it was enough for me to go ahead with the 4x2 with locker instead of the Fx2.
I have no off road requirements so it would have been based off looks and a sticker anyway. My other half is very susceptible to car sickness as is my son. I'm not so I can't say if it was bad enough for that or not. I just noticed a difference.
If you handed me a new 4x2 or Fx2 i'd be 100% happy driving either one.

What is this off-road screen? Is that limited to FX models only?
