Growing up and living in New England for 51 years we were always prepared for storms both summer and winter. One thing I learned at an early age was to never (at least try not to) depend on anyone else especially in an emergency. I always did my best to have plenty of supplies like food and fuel, a generator (even if just a small one) to run some lights and some source of back up heat. There's really no excuse up there as most houses had basements and you could always find wood stoves for sale reasonable. I realize things are expensive but you need to start early and accumulate these things over the years. Unfortunately many now are too dependent on others (cough, cough) the government to take care of them.

I realize many of the southern states just don't encounter this type of weather so it's really hard for them to justify having all of this. Those are the ones I feel sorry for and pray they are taken care of quickly. It's terrible to be cold but this weather they're having is beyond just cold it's dangerously cold with all k
I've stopped trusting all the 3 lettered organizations years ago. First they said stop eating butter, milk, eggs and red meat they're bad for you then shoved all these supposed "healthy" things in their place like margarine and all this plant based crap. Now we find out that's worse along with all the seed oils especially cotton seed oil. There's a reason autism and dementia has spiked over the years and it's from the foods we eat and the pills they brainwash you into taking.

I've read numerous studies and have watched tons of videos from Drs from all over the world on cholesterol. They all say the same that the ones who were taking the statins have a higher mortality rate than those that didn't. And it's a huge difference not just a small percentage. The acceptable numbers back in the early 80's was somewhere around the mid 200's and coincidentally those numbers were lowered in the late 80's (1987) when statins became available in the US and have been lowered since. In this same period we've seen the increase of dementia and Alzheimer.

People really need to start realizing that most medicines out there are only there to mask the ailments. Because a patient cured is a patient lost.

There's a lot of truth in this.

You took the words right out of my mouth!!!!! A healthy patient doesn’t use pills. How do I know? My wife was on 11 pills a day at least, and two shots in addition to the pills. Her morning pill dosage looked like a bowl of fruit loops. And she just kept taking every single pill those quacks kept prescribing every time she went back. One pill helped with “this” but caused “that”. So she got a pill for “that” which caused “then”. So she got a pill for “then” which caused, well, you see where I’m going. And guess what, she still died on her 57’th birthday. She met her $2250 deductible by the end of February every year and I could never tell her any different.
Don’t believe big pharmaceutical is n charge? Watch TV for an hour or so and see how many pills you see being pushed. Look at the salaries of some of these pharmaceutical CEO’s and tell me they want us to be healthy! Sorry to rant but this fake garbage fires me up.

Try insuring your electrolytes are optimal. This has worked wonders for me. Lowered BP , and got rid of arrhythmia (Tachy, A-Fib, etc). Key for me were raising Potassium (K 3700-4500mg /day and Magnesium ( 200mg / day), and lowering sodium (Na max of 1000mg / day).

No BP meds needed. Things like HCTZ lower K levels (bad).
No meds here besides a low dose beta blocker due to history of heart disease in family. So far it's well controlled with check up with cardiologist reduced to every 2 years.
I was taking magnesium, but after a long period of frequent diarrhea, found that to be the biggest contributor. I do take potassium, and that is well tolerated. Salt? Well, I need to make my food palatable, so use it as needed. But I do need to switch to sea or himalayan salt.

Your brain is 90% cholesterol. Protein and fats are good for you.. Sugar is not. The old food pyramid is upside down, and it was designed to mislead.
ABSOLUTELY it was, to make us sick. Check a box of FRUITY PEBBLES some time, that crap will make you want to throw up.

So when I got home today, with the sun barely melting the top of all the ice, I could not get traction to get up my sidewalk. I felt like a live Funniest Home Video. I would take a couple steps and slide back down. I was grabbing on any little chuck of ice protruding up. My wife, who had been trying to clear her car had better gripping boots on, walked right up and pushed against my back so I could get to the cleared door steps. Fuck this shit!
I just ordered ice cleats from scamazon. I almost fell three times just trying to get to the carport today.

So true! I can't believe how many drug ads, the long one or two minute drug ads, say something like if you are taking that, and have these symptoms, then you need this, in addition. What? So I need this new drug to battle the side effects of that drug? Fuck that!

One of my weaknesses is salt, I could put salt on a block of salt and eat it. Going on 72, no prescription pills at all, and during my recent telehealth visit with my NP. She told me I was healthier than some of her 40 year old patients.
Just a word on salt;
Choose the salt you enjoy most for flavor and texture, but prioritize limiting your overall sodium intake by cooking with less salt and adding flavor with acids (lemon/vinegar) or herbs, says the Today Show. If you're concerned about iodine, opt for iodized salt; if you want more minerals and don't mind sourcing iodine elsewhere (seafood, dairy), sea or Himalayan salts are good alternatives.

I have considered those many times over the years. It's one of those things that if you spend the money on them, you will never need them. So why am I waiting?

You are thinking exactly as I am, if I buy them, I will never need them again. 😂

Excellent points. I would add that drinking plenty of water helps absorb and eliminate salt. So staying hydrated is also big.

I keep a list of drugs shown on commercials and there is a drug for every single letter of the alphabet. I would post the list here but it would probably take up 11 screens.

You are exactly right. I do a minimum of five 20 ounce cups of water (actual size) every day in addition to a cup (or five) of coffee, or tea. And then there is the additional several glasses of turbocharged grape juice when we take the big girl to meet people at the Gauthier Vineyard on occasion. Oh, and several glasses of the magic elixir at Billsburg Brewery or Frothy Moon brewery. 😂🍷🍺😁

Speaking of drug ads I'm sure you've seen the ones for TD (Tardive Dyskyinesia) they're on almost every darn channel. This is a disease/side effect (they even say right in the ad!) that's caused from taking another mental health meds. Now they have another drug called Caplyta to "help" with the side effects from the first drug you took. o_O I mean you can't make this stuff up yet people line up to take this crap and then have to take another pill to stave off the effects of all the others. 🤦‍♂️

Big Pharma has their hands in everyone's back pocket from the politicians, CDC, FDA, and all the grants and studies are backed by them. Talk about the wolf guarding the hen house!! 🤬

Yup! And another one saying if you are on this depression med, and are still having issues, then you need to add this one.

That's all we drink and have no soda or anything else in the house. Annie will make green tea in the winter and we both drink at least 1 gallon a day. I laugh when I hear people ordering a diet soda when they're stuffing their face with fast food. Diet anything is worse than regular because all those sweeteners are poison!
