My brother moved from Oceanside, CA to Alvaton, KY just outside of Bowling Green last fall. He's on the southern edge of the storm path, but still the NWS is calling for 7-13in of snow and around .4 in of ice thru Monday morning. we have a lot of below zero weather expected here in Prescott, WI over the next week; had -21ÂşF here last night, hi of -9, but sunny! :sun:
I don't know how you guys live up that way by looking at these numbers. But I guess the same can be said about us living in the desert. lol :tumbleweed:

I was use to it when younger but now I just can't handle the cold. Even in the short time living back here I can feel a huge difference in the way my body feels. The cold makes me achey and feel lethargic and when we were in AR last winter I would sleep a lot more hours and nap just about every day. It's the total opposite here. I'm back to needing less sleep, feel way more energetic and haven't napped at all in the 3 months we've been here.

Still, it must be cheaper to repair storm damage than to put the power lines underground. Most areas of the country expertly trim trees to save the power lines, so that there will be power during and after a once-in-a-100 yr storm.

Your 60 yr old tree in the front yard? You'll get used to it.

Not in my yard. Two 100 foot pines, a cedar, and a catalpa tree that could destroy the power lines all have fallen and been removed one way or another. Attached is the last tree to fall and it didn’t hit the power lines. And it was 120 years old.
The last ice storm was not a once-in-a-hundred year storm, it was about 15 years ago and it took out power here for 13 1/2 days because those 60 foot trees took out the primary and secondary lines for over six miles and the entire system had to be totally rebuilt.
Yeah, that trimming doesn’t happen much around here. The 60 foot tree is only trimmed back about ten feet or so from the power lines. They are burying some lines but not many.
And I retired from the power company……

Thank you for the information update Dave. The truck and I are as prepared as we can be. I saw TXDOT out looking over the road as I was driving to work this morning.
They should be spreading de-icer prior to the storm. Do they have that capability?

I am much farther north then the storm but just a warning to those in the south getting hit the ranger cannot push through 2-4 feet of snow. That wall you see is around 4 feet. Heavy wind brings everything up my driveway to this corner. Here the is the aftermath after clearing it with the tractor snow blower so I could get the truck up my driveway. Second time I’ve gotten stuck on my driveway now you think I would learn my lesson. I don’t think we are supposed to get anymore snow just wind and extreme - temps. I’m sure I’ll walk out tomorrow and have to move all the snow that blew up the hill overnight though.

but seriously stay safe all that are affected. Stay warm and try to stay home if you can, it’s my understanding a lot of the southern states don’t have the infrastructure for rapid snow removal

Changing by the hour! the South is so screwed! I am pretty sure there will be no school Monday LOL maybe even Tuesday too ....
its not as big a deal for Us, this is a normal F***ING weekend here in Upstate NY, But NYC Can not even handle what we can, we are expecting 18+ inches and thats not a big deal
But even if they dont snow or Ice its still gonna be Below Freezing! the south has no way of getting ready for this, its going to effect upwards of 100 million people, I see up to 10 states lose power, meaning they wont have heat either! and have a greater than 50% of extended Power Outage...
Stay Safe, Be Ready :)

and that is on the conservative side too, I have hear 1 to 3 inches, power lines or trees cant take that weight of much over a 1/2 inch, so .75 and its going to be a huge outage
Up here its mainly a snow event we are way above the ice line, but we are always expecting outages, I am about 400 foot from the road only one or two big trees

Yeah the Weather Channel has been by far one of the worst for accuracy. I'd rather see higher more realistic numbers so people can prepare for the worst. That's why I always watched and liked Ryan & Max. They keep you up to date and are realistic without fear mongering. There's going to be many who will be caught off guard by this storm and do nothing because they're the ones who just rely on the government to do it for them.

My boss in Texas in a rural area is expecting one inch of ice then snow. That much ice is gonna knock down most lines and trees I would think.

All this hub-bub about this weekends weather (rightfully so) didn't realize the 24hours of Daytona was going on this weekend. Guess I can add that to my weekend watch list as well :like:

My son is right about the “a” in Wakefield and I am a little above the “d” just about a half mile off the James River. Just test ran the Kubota to make sure the generator is ready to go. I fully expect it will go out for at least a week if not more here.
