Has anyone removed their rear view mirror ? Or removed the trim surrounding its attachment point to the glass ?

Are the factory mirrors anchored to the glass via glue and aluminum tab ?

I'm being lazy... I could just go look for myself but I don't like removing trim pieces any more than necessary. I have been know to break a clip or 2.

There is a lot back there and the windshield has a black vinyl on it.

I stopped by the dealership to ask my mechanic about the mirror. He believes it attaches with the old school aluminum block glued to the glass.... like what came with my Wolfbox unit.

I saw videos where some Ranger Rearview Mirrors were just held in place by a circular plastic ring. All they did to remove the mirror was crank it 1/4 turn clockwise and the mirror would be off.

I was gonna pull the trim pieces early. But then I drank a beer. The 1st one. I'll deal with it tomorrow....

Negative: All 5G Rangers have this type of mounting plate for the mirror

Mounts on the (Bolt Head - Type Knub)

You may search as there is another member on here who (adapted) a aftermarket mirror to the mount plate.
This mount plate is part of the glass and comes with the glass.

DAMMIT !!!

That's what I was afraid of.

Dammit Ford !!! WHY ?!?!?

Ford is always F'ing up my plans and making things more difficult for me to upgrade.

I wonder if I could super glue the Aluminum Tab inside the Window Plate ?

My other option is to 'remove' my Cobra sc220c Dashcam...

Then,,, glue the tab to the glass and mount the Wolfbox directly below the mirror trim pieces (where my Cobra cam is).

Then,,, I would be driving around with (essentially) 2 rearview mirrors. That would look pretty stupid...

OR,,, Place it top dead center above the steering wheel as high as it will go...

It takes some work but you can remove the factory mirror from the mount and mount the Wolfbox on the OE arm. That's what I did and its been working for over a year.

A couple of questions was your OEM mirror the auto dimming one with the other stuff in it, or the plain one? Did you remove the arm from your original mirror and put It on the wolf box if so how, and which part did you use to adapt it?

I've got a spare OEM mirror I found on eBay and wanted to adapt it to my wolf box but just staring at it in my hands I've not figured out how to remove the arm to use yet. I don't have any visibility through my back windows as I have a service body so I just want the camera up there.

My mirror was the Auto Dimming. I used the Wolfbox mirror mount with an adapter for the hex nut. I had to use a Dremel on the upper trim piece because the new arm rides higher.
