When someone wins a big jackpot like this, absolutely EVERYBODY has their hand out for their cut.

You always want to take the lump sum (Publisher's Clearing House winners stopped receiving their lifetime annual payments after PCH went bankrupt) just in case. The cash option total is always lower than the annuity option because with the annuity they keep your money and earn themselves interest on it.

With the $1.8 billion win, here is what they will actually get after federal and Arkansas taxes.

No denying that $493 million is a nice payday, but it's a pretty long stretch from $1.8 Billion.

I was in Reno one time and someone won $280k on one of the machines.

Their actual take was $82k after every city, county, state, and federal agency got their cut.

I think that in Canada if you collect a big win you keep it all.

For approximately $800M after taxes? Put me in coach!

:bandit:
You know that in Australia winnings ( lottery, pokies, horses, etc) are not taxable at any level, federal , state or local, no, nada, nein. Any party that tried to bring that in would have to enjoy an indefinite stay on the opposition benches.

That's the way it should be everywhere! Here they'll tax everything and anything they can. 🤬 I'm still surprised they don't tax the air you breathe daily but they kind of do with an EPA tax.

A "fee" is just a tax they're trying to disguise.

There are no taxes on lottery winnings in Canada. Win fifty million, get a cheque for fifty million.

Just take a look at all your bills and add up all those "fees" (I call them extortion fees) and you'll be disgusted. The worst one is the delivery fee on your utility bills. In some areas they're not all that bad but back in MA most times the delivery fee was 3 times more than the actual electricity charge. My mom just told me their electricity fee was like $30 but the delivery fee was over $90. The gas company there does this too and of course there's no competition so you're stuck paying these extortion fees.

I added Annies daughter to our cell phone plan years ago and it saves her around $6.00/month just in fees. In Chicago there's so many extra fees added onto all their bills which we all know to pay for all those who don't pay anything.

Wow and they say WE have high taxes, at least ours are upfront, and we actually get something for them, free health, free education to high school grad level, subsidised University, (used to be free) unemployment benefits, cheap public transport, pension after retirement, etc.

Well how else can we afford all the Somalia fraud? It's not so much paying taxes I dislike, but I loathe the misuse of it.
