I just noticed this in my FordPass app. It was issued today.

Is there a cap where the element goes? I'm thinking of removing it and just cap it off. Not sure what the part number is. Or should I wait for the replacement?

It requires removing the intake manifold to replace the block heater. I would wait for the replacement part as it is pretty involved to do it yourself.

I was going to say that depending on where you are located the that it would be worth keeping the Block Heater. With that said I see you are in a place where the power grid can be knocked out simply by looking at it cross-eyed, so it wouldn't matter anyway! 😁

Okay thanks. I'll wait for the replacement part.

Question- Does your truck even have the block heater?
It does not require Intake Manifold removal as far as I can tell.

Its mounted just above the oil filter, may have to reposition coolant hoses to remove it, but defiantly will require to drain some coolant.
Note: I see a variation in the service manuals (older-not revised) where the Intake Manifold is to be removed, either they took that out of the manuals, or they moved the heater

PN: G5726A051B - Block Heater

Plus, also note (If installed) the heater is not receiving power unless you are plugged into an extension cord and I am not seeing the published version of the recall yet.

I am guessing they are using this Plug location for the install, note this is a threaded plug.

POSSIBLE PN: for the plug: W718192-S437, needs verified

Yes, it has the block heater. It's factory installed. I special ordered my Ranger. There is a cord where I could plug an extension. I haven't even used it yet.

The Engine Block Heater is Standard Equipment on my Canadian XLT and likely standard on the Lariat and possibly the XL trim level as well. I sure hope the recall is limited to a specific production run or parts could be an even bigger problem than they are now.

Just checked ford.ca and my truck is included. :(

This recall notification does not show up in my FordPass app. Canadian owners would be wise to check the Ford Recall page.

That survey pop up is ironic. Right now, I’m pretty sure they don’t want my opinion.

That's why I rather remove it and cap it. We do get that hard freeze during the winter. But it only lasts a day or two. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all.

We typically don’t get that deep freeze where I am either but the folks in other areas sure do. I recall “Does it have a block heater?” as a question when I was selling my car on Clutch.ca. I will certainly get mine replaced, even though, I have a heated garage and will likely never need it.

I’m sure the method of sealing a frost plug (Is that a misnomer from days gone by? Hmm, I wonder) is similar to that of sealing the block heater. If it’s a fault of the sealing method and they have the parts, you might as well have it installed. If it’s a fault of the heating element failing, I would think/hope the’ve solved the issue.

Well, time to call the Service Department at Parkway Ford. :(

Update…the local dealership informs me that this is an “advance notice of a recall” and that Ford Canada will notify me when there is a remedy.

I think that means ”We don’t have replacement parts yet.“

These days, Executive Compensation in large companies is often tied to customer satisfaction surveys. I wonder if Ford’s executive comp is tied to recalls in any way. If not, maybe it should be. 🤔

The 2019 Ford Ranger shop manual states that the intake manifold must be removed to get to the block heater. I looked it up before I posted.

Since it's standard equipment up in Canada, most of the parts will be heading that way. I could be the only one in my city that ordered one for my Ranger, who knows. I rather remove it and cap it off. I don't want my Ranger sitting at the dealership when the part arrives. The Doves around here are known to build a nest somewhere on the vehicle.

I saw that, so something is not matching up- I do not have the heater so someone with it installed can simply do a visual check- if they can see it then it’s a easier replacement.

I have to wait until I get home. I'm at work now.
