TLDR: Ford Premium Protect warranty paid for itself today.

The other title I was going to post this week: Lots Of Ranger Goodies For Sale

As I have mentioned on here, I have taken my truck in multiple times for the HVAC box issue and funky transmission shifting issues.

My truck is a 2019 with 36,700 miles on it.

EVERY time I have dropped it off, I have gotten the No Problem Found from the dealer, only for me to promptly find the problem on the way home.

My extended warranty expires in December, so I also recently posted that I was dropping it off for the LAST time. And if I got No Problem Found again, I was DONE.

I had already pretty much decided on trading it for a Tesla Model 3 Performance and then getting a cheap beater pickup.

So yesterday I dropped it off at the dealer to have them check the HVAC (SSM-51313) and asked that they do the transmission test procedure in TSB 25-2024

I also provided them a flash drive with a couple of videos showing the climate set at 70 degrees, driver side air coming out at 72 degrees and passenger side air at 120 degrees.

My heater box issue was sporadic and yesterday morning it was dumping heat on the passenger side again. Of course, by the time I got to the dealer it was working fine. I had actually opened a case directly with Ford on this (a FAR request),

My intent was if they told me No Problem Found that I would return the truck to completely stock and then sell all the stuff on it as well as the brand new stuff still sitting in the garage that I was waiting to find out if Ford would fix the truck before installing.

The dealer called me just a little while ago.

Heater box will be completely replaced and transmission will be completely rebuilt. FINALLY! And all for the cost of my $50 deductible (+ tax of course).

The service advisor told me that when they started it this morning the HVAC was roasting the passenger side. It actually exhibited the issue for a change!

And when they performed the transmission test, it failed multiple areas of the test.

So hopefully in a week or so, I'll have my truck back with my only 2 real concerns addressed.

Very happy to finally get my concerns validated and a solution is inbound.

Audible sigh of relief.
How was the transmission shifting?

How was the transmission shifting?
It was a Jekyll and Hyde sometimes.

Smooth as glass one day, clunking all over the place the next.

It got to where it would pretty regularly clunk into 4th gear.

The event that really set me off was when it wouldn't go into reverse for a few seconds, then slammed into reverse. Only occasionally of course, and never for the dealer.

I'm very glad it failed spectacularly when the test procedure in TSB 25-2024 was performed.

Yeah waiting then slamming into reverse is SO not normal. These dealers suck.

Mine has sort of a rougher shift into 3rd usually. Not really clanking or anything just noticeable. My warranty is up in a year and sort of want to take it in just to see if they find anything before it’s up. They want me to pay for the test tho which is like $200

If your transmission fails the test, you are not charged the $200 diagnostic fee.

If it passes, you at least have some peace of mind that the CDF hasn't slipped.

It came back home today.

A bit over $7k repair bill covered by the ESP.

Almost 3 weeks but it seems to have gotten the whole bucket of updated parts.

New CDF, new torque converter, and new valve body.

Plus the new heater box.

I talked to one of the service guys who worked on it and he said the 10R80 is good after all the updated parts are installed.

Great to have it back, though the transmission is a bit clunky. Vastly improved from before though.

I expected that for the first bit as it sorts itself out.

Here's my repair order.

Dennis, I hope your Ranger is now the way it should be!
Thanks!

I have to say it's good to have it back.

This is once again the truck I bought.

In a few weeks if it continues to do well, I may have to rethink my Tesla plans for a bit.

Mine was clunky for the first few hundred miles. It seems OK now.
Glad you got your truck back finally!
