The midsize truck segment is fiercer than ever, and the all-new 2024 Ford Ranger has arrived not just to compete, but to dominate. This isn't just a simple refresh; it's a complete ground-up redesign that brings a more commanding presence, a significantly upgraded interior, and—most importantly—a thrilling new powertrain to the table. After spending time with this new truck, it's clear the Ford Ranger is a formidable machine that successfully blends rugged capability with modern comfort.

From the moment you lay eyes on it, the 2024 Ford Ranger makes a statement. Its design is bolder and more squared-off, echoing the tough aesthetic of its bigger brother, the F-150. The wider stance and more upright grille give it an undeniably muscular look that stands out in a crowded parking lot. This confident exterior design sets the stage for what's to come behind the wheel.

Performance & Powertrain: The Heart of the Matter

The headline act for the 2024 Ford Ranger is, without a doubt, its new engine option. While a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder remains the base offering, the star of the show is the available 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. This powerhouse churns out a segment-leading 405 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, numbers that firmly place it at the top of the class.

This engine transforms the driving experience. Acceleration is brisk and authoritative, making highway merging and passing maneuvers utterly effortless. The ten-speed automatic transmission is well-matched, delivering smooth, timely shifts that make the most of the V6's immense powerband. Whether you're towing near its 7,500-pound max capacity or simply enjoying an empty back road, this powertrain delivers a level of performance that is genuinely exhilarating for a midsize truck. The electronic power-steering system also receives praise for its improved feel and precision over previous models, making the new Ford Ranger more engaging to drive.

Of course, it’s not all about going fast. The Ford Ranger maintains its rugged roots with capable four-wheel-drive systems, an available locking rear differential, and a suite of off-road driving modes—especially on the FX4 and Raptor variants. Its robust chassis provides a solid foundation, whether you're navigating a rocky trail or a rain-soaked jobsite.

Interior & Technology: A Massive Leap Forward

Step inside the new Ford Ranger, and you're greeted by an interior that finally feels contemporary and well-considered. Gone are the cheap plastics and dated layouts of yesteryear. In their place is a modern, driver-focused cabin with significantly improved materials.

The centerpiece is a portrait-style 12-inch infotainment touchscreen running Ford's latest SYNC 4A software. This system is a huge improvement: it’s responsive, intuitive, and features crisp graphics. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are welcome conveniences that modern drivers expect. The digital gauge cluster is also configurable and provides a wealth of information clearly and cleanly.

Front-seat passengers will find ample head and legroom, and the seats themselves are comfortable and supportive. However, it’s not a perfect scorecard inside. The rear seats, while improved, can still feel a bit cramped for taller adults on longer journeys, a common trade-off in the midsize segment. Some critics also note that while the interior is much better, a few surfaces lower down on the console and doors remind you that this is still a work-ready truck.

Final Thoughts

The 2024 Ford Ranger is a triumphant return to form. It successfully addresses the biggest criticisms of its predecessor by delivering a powerful engine, a high-tech and comfortable interior, and a commanding design. While it has a few minor quirks, its strengths overwhelmingly define it. For anyone seeking a midsize truck that doesn’t compromise on performance, technology, or style, the 2024 Ford Ranger deserves to be at the very top of your list. It’s a truck that proves you can have thrilling performance without sacrificing everyday practicality.

And isn't the 6G V6 a 2.7L, not a 3.0L?

Yes, @Kustom Interior at this point we are having fun at your expense on this thread. 😉

As Finnegan would say "why is this fun for me right now." In this case it's "fun for us!"

They show the seats because they sure look better than the 10-speed transmission. How could anybody be expected to trust one word of a write-up that reads like that?

That's because you want the seats to be nice and comfy to sit in while waiting for the tow truck after your 10R80 grenades on the highway.
