120 CPM on the meter (for Cs137) is about 1 uSv/hr (microSievert per hour).

So about 42 uSv/hr or about 4 dental x-rays.

Well not quite, count and dose are not always related and you need a different measurement for dose rates. My meter is not calibrated for that specific function.

It's always important to remember that CPM(Counts Per Minute) and Dose Rate are not always directly linked. It is dependent on the type of radiation.

That particular meter operates on CPM scale of 0.1x -100x. I had the scale set to 100x so that would be 500,000k+ CPM.
But also I was using a scintillator detector that is very sensitive Gamma and hard Beta radiation. Helps me locate those Spicy Rocks. That pile of rocks was likely closer to 10-20 µSv/hr(best guess)
I wasn't paying attention to my dosimeter at the time, but it would have alerted me to "it's getting too hot here".

I don't glow yet...but I have a few rocks that do(under UV of course)

Yup. Energy of the particle, type of particle and all. Well with Gamma there's no particles

Reminds me of uranium glass. It also glows.

Too bad the source material for the glass is now used for nuclear reactors and bombs.

Yeah I have a full suspension e-bike that I want to bring out to that area soon - lots of fun offshoots from the trails and great views.
