Before my accident a few weeks ago, the next project I was planning on doing was pulling the lift blocks out of the rear end and switching to extended leaf spring shackles. I’ve read this retains the factory tow rating and is a friendlier option for your leafs. I’m also trying to get the ass end higher. Since adding the rack and accessories, it’s gone right back to stock height.

I was reading some stuff about adding shackles and saw that some guys have had issues with the exhaust tip making contact with the leaf springs. The obvious way around this is cutting the exhaust tip off at the muffler, which I’d rather not do.
Has anyone here done this mod on their Ranger and what did you end up doing to get the exhaust tip out of the way?

I can either cut it off completely and reweld it at a downturned angle or maybe cut a notch on the backside, bend it inward, and weld the notch closed. My truck is still getting repairs done at the shop, so I haven’t had a chance to get under it and actually look at it yet. Just preemptively planning and getting ideas.

What you need to do is calculate the actual load and get the correct leaf springs. This is the best way to proceed. Not blocks or shackles

Agree with the post above, a better solution is a good aftermarket company to supply a set of lift springs. The closer the extended shackle angle is to 90 degrees, the rougher the ride is going to be. Also check the droop travel in your shocks is still enough as any added ride height is going to come out of that.
I'm not sure about the USA but extended shackles are technically illegal over here in all states and territories.
(although some people still use em')

Unfortunately the US doesn't have the same restrictions as Down Under with vehicles(though they should). It's a shame to be honest because the way Australia does things you can still get some nice modifications done within reason and keep a vehicle useful and practical

Must be an ass man. I would get tremor leafs or a good aftermarket multi leaf set. I know its spendy but its a better option. For safety too.

OME or ICON leafs will give you a better ride than the blocks did and get your rear lift back. What exhaust did you have put in that hits the leaf, or was it the wreck that ruined it?

That’s my holdup on getting leafs. I don’t wanna spend that much lol maybe I’ll do it the right way instead of cutting corners. Although, is it really cutting a corner or just not the best option?

Stock exhaust, nothing special. I’ve just heard things about the exhaust tip hitting leafs when you add those lift shackles. I might just get a new leaf spring assembly. Still undecided. Doesn’t matter much at the moment anyway because I don’t even have the truck back yet lol

I did longer shackles and yes they hit the exhaust tip turn out. In my case I flipped the axle and needed the longer shackles to bring the rear back up some. I didn't need the extra payload however but this didn't change ride quality any.
I cut the turnout just behind the resinatior and welded in a piece of 3" exhaust tubing about 12" long. It will need a slight bend maybe 33° on the resinator end. That places the pipe just behind the hanger, still looks stock.
