Hit a driveshaft lying on the freeway going about 65mph. Shredded both stock Grabbers.

The driveshaft in question...

I saw the thing in a split second and swerved to avoid it, but both left tires hit just the yoke end and POW!

The shaft fell out of the cement truck parked on the left, that about a minute before I hit the shaft, obviously coasted to the spot where I pulled over.

I am lucky there is no apparent damage to my truck other than the tires. It's at a dealership now getting inspected and new tires.

Also, there were at least 5 other vehicles that got flat tires from it (green arrows). I didn't have a chance to get pics of them all.

Luckily no one was hurt or worse....
Sorry OP. But man that could have been so much worse.

Pisses me off with the concrete company. Clearly their maintenance program leaves a bit to be desired. They’d better reimburse you with a smile on their face.

And a free load of concrete for a driveway, sidewalk or patio - for just good faith

I’m having a CRS (can’t remember ?) moment…what is the user name of our resident Ford parts guy. I want to order the SC back seat delete parts and clean up my “back seat” area.

pulled these parts numbers from a previous post.

Well, using factory parts maybe out of reach. Over $500 for the parts, shipping and tax. Crazy for some plastic. Back panel alone $387! Need a new plan….

There are only two parts, the back panel and the lower window trim piece.
Prices have gone up since I bought mine around 3 years ago....both parts ran right at $300.

Update on the road debris tire blowouts.

There is no damage to body, suspension, or wheels. TPS sensors all good. Its really pretty miraculous. Had two new Grabbers installed and put on rear. I didn't want to spend extra for a new set of 4 because I plan on replacing wheels and tires later this year. Hopefully I can get paid out by the cement truck company for two tires and it will be a wash.

If you do any serious rock crawling, I don't think I would trust the General Grabbers. The sidewalls appear to be kinda weak. Not good for crawling. Just an observation....

Would that differ with load rating? I’ve seen grabbers with different load rating and sidewall ply. The prices fluctuates and sizes aren’t always available it seems.

Yes. The OEM Grabbers are Load Range C. Most light truck tires are C. The BFG KM2s on my Jeep crawler are Load Range E and I have repeatedly pinched those sidewalls on Sierra granite boulders while aired down to 10lbs.

My comment about the Grabbers sidewall looking thin was based on just looking at the damage, nothing more.

A great pay back to the ready-mix company would be if the drum was full and they could not get it unloaded and it turns into a big chunk.

As a matter of fact, that was the case. It was 9 yards full and still spinning.
