Hi all, has anyone tried swapping on factory Tacoma wheels? I'm sure that's considered sacrilege by some, I saw someone asterisk the model out like it's a swear. I'm not stewed in your culture.

Anyway, I have the stock 16" steel wheels on my 2019 XL and want a set to swap out ATs and snow tires. I'd like to keep the snows on my aging steelies this year.
The aftermarket for 16" alloy wheels seems poor, everything is a major offset shift. Looks like the taco wheels are +25mm which is an acceptable (maybe ideal) change to keep stock fenders and minimize rub issues. Studs are 12x1.5 thread so that should work to swap to the washer-style nuts to accomodate the wheels. Will probably paint my hubs instead of find cap options, mine mostly fell off the first year anyways. I assume TPMS relies only on universal size valve stem holes.

Anything you can think of that would get in the way otherwise? $600 for a decent used set really speaks to me. Thanks!

Toyota uses a shank style lug not on their aluminum wheels. You'd have to make sure that the lugs tighten down, but don't bottom out. There is a lot that goes into it. If all that works out, there is no reason you couldn't use them.

I want AGP wheels (TRD knockoff) on my ranger to give Toyota guys an aneurysm.

These ones. I also thought about getting sticky letters for the tailgate that says "TACOMA" or "YOTA" to be cute.

Those are slick, them's on my wishlist but a little big for the rubber. How about TRD on the hub cover? That was a temptation ?

This kind of swap will require you to also swap out your bumpstops, but we are told that's not a problem and will only enhance your ride quality.

If you've been around here any length of time, you're aware of the rules:
Pics or it didn't happen!

Good luck!

You may also want to look into a set of hub centering rings.

Your Ranger has a 93.1mm center bore where the Tacoma has a 106.1mm center bore.

A set of centering rings will run you about $20.

Aluminum Hubcentric Rings for $16.99

You don't need to spend extra for metal rings, plastic is fine.

Their only purpose is to keep the wheel centered when you're tightening your lugnuts.

The lugs support the truck weight.

When I out my Fuel wheels on, I had a very slight vibration that I could never get resolved.

A set of centering rings resolved it.

Your weener will fall off...
Thats acceptable behavior lately so watch out.

Only solid truck toyota makes is the Hilux. Driven them, they are awesome. Taco, not so much. Its like the corolla of trucks, last forever but still a corolla when it comes to doing truck things.

Thank you for the explanation and link. Will be sure to get those. I'm a little concerned about them staying put without hub covers, although it makes sense it wouldn't be a dramatic failure if one did pop out. Probably fairly tight fit, too?
Maybe I'll replace my covers just for the little extra insurance (that they don't become projectiles on the highway)

edit: perhaps that's a good reason to choose plastic. Surprisingly the aluminum is cheaper.

They won't pop out.

Look at the pic and you can see that they have a slight lip at the bottom and the wheel holds this tightly to the hub.
