Just curious, is the Ranger transmission serviceable by the owner for a fluid and filter change? I was assuming it doesn't have a dipstick (terrible design) and is a pain to service like many newer vehicles. Hope Im wrong!

There is a short dipstick underneath. See section 307-01 of the manual here for drain and refill procedures.

You could order a dip stick from a F150 10-speed and install it. I've thought about this.

This has also been covered a lot in another thread, including a lively debate about the 150,000-mile recommended fluid change interval, which some folks aren't comfortable with:

I'm also thinking of buying a dipstick, but for now have ordered one of these:

I haven't tried changing the fluid yet, but will probably try sometime before 10,000 miles. It's worth noting that with this transmission, a normal fluid change only replaces about 25% of the fluid, compared to many older transmissions where it's closer to 50%

This vehicle has the tiny, internal dipstick as well. Additionally, the fluid level is different, so this is not advisable.
