hey all. my '22 tremor recently started throwing up the "change oil soon" message upon startup. the last oil change was four months ago and I'm still about 2000 miles short of the dealership sticker. the oil even looks fine on the dipstick, so I'm not sure what gives.

thoughts?

What kind of driving have you been doing. The ecu takes into account a few different things in determining when to turn that light on.

Or the dealership didn't reset it last time they did the change.

it doesn't do much other than my daily commute and weekend errands. I took it on a 300 mile trip in november. I will say it does have a lot of idle time since it's winter now and I don't have a garage to keep the windows from being frosty in the mornings.

Maybe they didn't reset it at the last oil change.

The Oil Life Monitors do a pretty good job. My wife drives our Mariner mostly on short trips of 3-5 miles or so, and the OLM will trigger the service message at around 2500 miles or so, and show under 10%. This car gets Quicklane service at 3000 miles. I've never seen lower than 5% so maybe that is where it quits monitoring. But the Ranger will show as much as 42% when I change it at 6,000mi. I typically drive it 10+ mi at a time or more, and it is the vehicle we take on cross country trips.
It does read more pessimistic in the winter, where I'll start it from the app and let it warm for 5-10 min.

Personally, I have never used the Oil Life Monitor as any kind of oil change guidance. Just reset it every oil change @ 5,000 (increments)
So, the main question is how many miles are on the current oil vs dealer sticker with 2,000 left to go?
Are they pushing 10,000 increments?

My guess is that the oil minder was not reset. I do mine every 5000 miles anyway so I never see the message.

You raise an interesting question, Airline. As I mentioned in my previous post, the 2009 Mariner's OLM usually triggers a msg. at ~25-2800mi. I've always assumed it was because the oil was getting contaminated at a faster rate (short, low rpm trips) than than the '21 Ranger, which is typically in the 30-40% oil life range at 6,000 mi(little city driving, cross country trips). I suppose they could also be pushing a green agenda; fewer oil changes = less dirty oil created, but the OLM readings do correlate with the way my vehicles are driven.

Don't any of you note, on paper, when you do fluid changes, tire rotations, ect ???
Back of owners manual are plenty of blank pages to note date/mileage/what was done to keep a record.
Since day one any work goes down on paper. For Ranger, wife's Subi, lawn equipment.....
Even have a note board in garage reminding me of when next is due....

I downloaded an Excel template and keep everything there. Same idea but I can print it and give it to the new owner when I sell it. Not to mention, it is in a readable format, unlike my handwriting. :)

I'm just old school. Even keep a small 3x5 inch note book....those .50 cent type in glove compartment to note stuff down.....even stuff I buy for the vehicles that have a warranty, or just to help me remember what/when I bought something.
Folder in office desk gets all the receipts...
