Got my driver's license in a 1971 Pinto sedan. Owned 3 Chevette's. 1980, 1984 and 1987. Bought 2 of them new. I'm on my 3rd Ranger. 1997, 1995 and 2017. The order is correct. The 1997 and 2019 bought new. Grew up riding in VW busses. 1958, 1964 and 1972. Borrowed time? Maybe? Life on the edge? Possibility? Do I care? I think not. I refuse to be electrocuted.

It had an 4/5 crash test rating for the 19-23 models. Seems like a bit too late to retract that rating. What did they decide to start using to crash test it in order to get such a bad review? Run over it with a dump truck?
Maybe hit it with 8,500 pound Ford Lightnings ?.

4 cars per billion vehicle miles....I have a better chance of an asteroid landing in by back yard, purple aliens crawling out of it, and presenting me with a bowl of Green Cheese Cheerio's topped with horse poo for a snack !!!

That was suspiciously specific. What aren't you tell us? Or, more specifically, what did you just admit?

I'll admit I was surprised to see that the Ranger was ranked the second most dangerous pickup. I know we only represent a small percentage of owners out there but based on those who've been involved in some pretty bad ones here I thought it would rank a lot higher.

? They must of based their rankings from those blue ones? :lipssealed:?

It's actually those white ones that blend into everything during the daylight hours...<grin>

My Pinto was a Runabout , very rare , all glass hatch with no metal trim around it, was slightly cooler looking but did a little worse in the "rear bumper tap leads to major explosion " issues that some owners would have liked to have been able to report about, but ... front end seemed solid if I remember correctly as I was backing away from what ever I just hit...

I may have, at some point, been "probed". Not sure as it was in the same time period as my colonoscopy, so it could have been either.....

Wow! Could they have used any more scary wording to get mouse clicks. And, what kind of a source is ISEECARS anyway. Yes, they did use numbers from the NHTSA. Just proves you can use statistics to show anything us want. When the measure is statisticly small even small variations can be made to look huge. Two times really small is still really small.

Life is dangerous.

Cancer will get me someday.o_O
I've had cancer and have the deluxe model pacemaker with the defibrillator, 2 titanium knees and 2 titanium disc replacement's in my lumbar, ill stick with my Ranger and defensive driving. It could be worse, I could be sitting in traffic in a 72 Pinto...

I think that is a flawed methodology honestly, because driver behavior is the wild card that isn't taken into account. As someone else mentioned, the 5G Ranger did very well on the crash tests (4/5).

This does not concern me in the least..... The Ranger is not a death trap like they want you to think it is. That article was very click baity.
Couple things... I think the methodology is not completely clear... leaves a lot of questions unanswered.

As to the driver behavior, that is kinda irrelevant, as they measured outcomes of actual events. All kinds of behaviors, good, bad, or indifferent (normal), resulted in a "bad" outcome. What the mix of good behaviors vs bad (would be interesting). If they were trying to predict the outcomes, behavior would clearly be a factor.

No, it is indeed not a death trap and click bait-ish... but a worthy topic is the analysis and method was proper (from the description, I can't tell if it was).

I think the moral of the story is: pedal to the metal while you hold my beer!

I was going to say that it’s probably because of all the modified/removed crash bars
