Spare tire hoist weight limit?

Apologies if this question has already been asked, looked throughout the boards and couldn’t see anything about it asked before but is there a weight limit for the spare hoist cable? I know my spare wheel and tire will fit just not sure if it’s too heavy weighting in at 85ish pounds.

it will handle a fair amount. I have a steel rim and 10 ply E rated tire on mine and had no issues. have not weighed the tire and wheel but id guess the tire alone is 50 pounds or more and the wheel is likely about 30 or 40.

I’m probably carrying about 95 pounds on mine.

I don't think 85 pounds would be too heavy but the time it spends there (as in years) and conditions (like salt on the roads) will impact how well the winding chain bracket holds up.

Is there a reason you don't want to stick with a normal spare? I understand the desire to have a full capability spare (I carried two in my FJ40).

But the reality is that if you blow a tire, and only have one spare, you probably ought to limp back to safety rather than risk another flat. (but my 20-something old would have never listened to my current 60-something's advice!) =D

That said, I always carried a repair kit and did successfully fix flats when out 4 wheeling on a few occasions.

I suspect that they will handle more than they are rated for. Thank you lawyers! I got a matching wheel and went to 265/70R17 and it is definitely heavier than the factory spare. I ran a ratchet strap to help support it, just in case. Screenshot is from the owners manual.

Where'd you run the ratchet strap? I was trying to figure out a way to add one to mine after i went to some heavy 275/70/17 KO3's, but couldn't really see anything

I got a cheap tire cover to keep road junk off the nice wheel. You can see the hook through the hole as I had to hook it to the top of the crossmember the spare rides on. I have to get to Tractor Supply and find one that will use the lower hole and slip through the small hole next to it.
