Went to do a 6 quart trans fluid swap this morning via the Fitzstick tube. Pulled dipstick out, wiped and reinserted it to get a fluid level check.....dipstick only went in part way, as if the tip was catching on something. Tried re-orienting it with same result. Tried my old/first edition dipstick with same result.
Tube from the electric pump will also not bottom out...feels like it hanging up.
The engine/trans is cold. This is the first time this has happened as I check fluid at least every other week.
Any of you had this happen ? Seems like something is blocking the dipstick and pump hose.
Maybe run engine and shift thru trans gears ???????
Not panicking as trans is still full.......

Nope....no lawyers allowed !!!
First time this has occurred. Not worried...probably something simple. Have a rubber stopper that fits the tube, and hadn't drawn off any fluid.
Here's pic of how far dipstick will insert....
Backed out of garage and shifted thru gears...no change. Its hanging up on something or something is blocking it from re-inserting. Just checked it las week and no problems than.

Time to insert the bore scope camera an take a peek.
Funny...I ordered one, but won't be here till Tuesday.
In contact with Mike, the Fitzstick Guru....we're working it out.

I'm guessing it is catching on the fitting into the trans. My early dipstick would catch all the time, but the new one Mike sent goes in smooth now. I'd just gently try and insert it a few times and I'm sure it will go in.

Got some tips from Mike to cut the pump tube to an angle, and to bend the very tip end of the dipstick to more of an angle, and both worked. Both were hanging up on the tube end fitting.
Everything good now.

You do want an angle on the pump intake tube.

I have found changing the fluid this way to be simple, fast, accurate (if you pump the old fluid in pre-marked gallon jugs), and very clean. as in not spilling a drop.

Much simpler and faster than changing the engine oil!

I'm doing it again this afternoon.

Exactly what I'm doing...got one of those Amazon 12 volt pumps and have 2 gallon jugs marked with quart measurements....going to drain 3 quarts into each.

Probably just a piece of forth gear blocking the way. No worries though, you still have 9 other gears.:like:

When dad first found out his Ranger DID NOT have an easily accessible dipstick for the transmission, like every other truck he has had in the history of, well, just his history I guess ? but anyway , HE DID NOT TAKE IT WELL ! , and got banned over the damn thing, now, knowing his and the 10r80's unpredictability, I wouldn't touch either one with a 10 foot dipstick, whatever is going on inside there is FORD and then FORD ESP's problem...

Actually, it's not Ford's problem, it's ours. If the former were the case they would have fixed the problems by now instead of continuing to sell a defective product.

How else are they going to sell ESP's and gamble nothing will go wrong before it expires.
