My in-laws flat tow their Ranger behind an RV and are thinking of getting a dash cam. They would like to move it between the windshield when they're driving it and the rear window when towing it. The question is whether the lighter sockets (front seat or rear seat) remain powered when flat towing so they can power the cam from there.
Thanks!

Those sockets time out after a set time, don't remember the default but think around 20-30 minutes, and it can be changed in Forscan. I tow my Ranger also and installed a tow vehicle charger that keeps the Ranger battery fully charged from the M/H 12v. This way I don't have to worry about a low battery disengaging the tow mode.

Factory = 75 Minutes
Can be changed via Forscan (BCM)

However, this would be for a normal (truck off) condition
Technically they should still remain powered as normal, but there is not a detailed diagram or description of what is powered or not powered during a Flat-Tow.

We know that it is imperative to ensure you are in Tow Mode, and ensue the ignition is truly (Off) and not in Accessory. It ties into the Transmission Relay, not getting powered.
By referencing the various posts of - Major Issues from either improper Tow Mode set-up or the truck itself pulling itself out of it.
I would think that Ford would have included a more detailed description of Tow Mode - Power distribution.
Basically, the information in the Owner's Manual for Tow Mode is all you get

This is another Ranger feature I wish I could get detailed info on, other than this is how you get it into Tow Mode, I would like to know specifically what it does to get it into Tow Mode

I should reword - Tow Mode to Neutral Tow Mode - Sorry

So that leads to another question, I just got my Ranger ready to tow. Got the oil changed and I asked the dealer if the odometer still rolls while I'm towing? I will be doing g a 4k trip and he said in tow mode it doesn't accumulate miles. Is that true?

That is correct, the tow mileage does not get added to the odometer. But remember to keep track of towed mileage for wheel bearing and brake pad wear.

Where was this when I towed from coast to coast and back last year, and had to stop every hour and a half to reset the key again. ?

This is the settings for Forscan to change the timeout on the aux sockets, but be sure to have battery power from the RV to preclude draining the rangers.
