Prescient comment from Alexander Fraser Tytler...

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
Alexander Fraser Tytler
Eww.. With that thought we're somewhere in the complacency - apathy - dependence axis..

We are affected by some of this sentiment in a republican democracy but there are limits on the scope of democracy... Will be interesting to see how the republic is impacted. There really is no prior model on our governance- we are a hybrid. Without a suitable societal replacement for welfare we are at this time resigned to the codependency it puts between the government and the people. To note the prior role of church and community support organizations have been pushed aside by this role of government. Entitlement programs are a great way to be voted in or out of office. But all politics are local. If you want to influence this model then help the disenfranchised, get involved in politics, have your voice heard by speaking out, and VOTE.

Democracy is just rule by the stupid. The stupid always outnumber the smart and will always vote the way the TV tells them too. So as democracy rises the power is concentrated in fewer and fewer hands. The Founding Fathers did not want all these people voting because they knew. The end result being that voting has been reduced to an opinion box at this point.

It's like "jury of your peers". Can you imagine being on trial for your life and the people deciding your fate are just a bunch of randos in a bad mood because they couldn't weasel out of jury duty? Those aren't my peers.

100%! Or at least go back and make it the way it was intended to be used as a short term hand out so you could get back on your feet. Now it's a way of life for most with their kids following in their footsteps. Sorry but one child is an accident, 3+ is a lifestyle and should not be allowed if you're on assistance.
amen. Yall may have heard this from me already. several years back I was between jobs and it was hard to get a job. I was broke. i was taking side jobs like moving hay and painting trailers to get by. before going in wally world I was in my old dodge counting out all the change from the cup holders and cubby holes so i could buy basic stuff like soap, toothpaste etc. i go around the store and get a few dollars worth of stuff (the limit from the dodges account). the entire time im shopping i saw a family laughing and planning a party with 3 cart loads of food that looked like a blowout superbowl was coming up. Chips, dips, drinks, paper plates, snack junk foods. i ended up behind them at the checkout. i dont remember the amount but it was a lot. around 400 i think, all in party supplies and junk food. they paid for all of it with a Lonestar card and wic. I was really pissed in my mind. They were having a big ol party on welfare from my taxes and former wages while i was counting pennies to get equate brand needed items and ramen noodles. i wasnt getting unemployment checks. at that point i took a munch different view of "social programs".

Unfortunately that's mostly what's breeding now. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree so we have a whole society of stupid people now!
When children are born into an environment where education is, at best, a 3rd or 4th concern, then yes it can be chalked-up to "inferior" breeding. But that is a direct result of systematically dumbing down primary, elementary and high school curriculum. It goes hand-in-hand with text book companies producing half-assed, cut-and-paste crap that get approved by ridiculously self important school boards. It comes from BOTH sides of our limited 2-party politics - extreme ideas from each waste time, resources, and are clearly doing damage to this society. Pure laziness, an easy buck and EVERYBODY gets fkd. Except of course those making the fast buck.

We need to stay politics free here. If you feel as you do, get out there and promote your ideas and bring 10 others with you to vote. Democracy demands the free exchange of ideas to be successful AND the willingness of people to engage freely when it is time to participate.

I'm not choosing sides, that was the point of my comment. We need more ideas focused on a common ground, regardless of where they come from. I'll refrain from using the 'P' word.

I wasn't so much replying in regards to your post but thinking we are edging into an area that might not be appreciated by others. This sidebar is leaning towards a political conversation and this is a discussion on Darwin award candidates.,.. we are sidebar'ing to far.

Touching on a subject and mentioning the word political is fine as long as it doesn't get out of hand. Like anything there's a fine line and those post that do cross it usually get deleted. I doubt there's a thread here or on any forum that doesn't go off topic some and if there is it's so heavily moderated I wouldn't want to participate in it. But I do agree we should get back on topic here.?

Now what were we talking about....Oh yeah, dampers and 303 products. ?

It must be the newest one "Best wheel and tire cleaner" that come out Sunday. We've been so busy I haven't had a chance to watch that one yet. But I already know the winner.:captain:?
