I think the Rangers are the same as the wife's Escape. I used one of her small crochet needles. Latched onto it and hooked it right over. Got the crochet needle back before she knew it was gone or it wudda been my arse!

I got good at this when dealing with rodents.
Open the passenger door and sit on the sill. With the glove box closed, reach up to the damper with your left hand, palm facing towards the glove box. You’ll be able to feel the loop of the damper and the attachment point on the glove box.
Grasp the loop with your index finger and thumb. A slight pull downwards and push with your index finger will pop in onto the attachment point.
No cursing required….unless you want to.:like:

I was able to pull a lot of slack with the box closed, then pop the loop over the knob before the slack goes away. Totally by feel unless you are a contortionist.

Yup, the cussing did it perfectly, but now how do I get the blue air out of the cab?
Cord is not long enough to reach post when glovebox is open.
What a stupid design.
Thanks all for the feedback and encouragement!

it is a pain in the butt. wouldn't be problem if ford hadn't put a maintenance item behind it.

Agreed. But they're not the only manufacturer that's done it.

OHHOOOooo. I just found out that not only do I have a light in my ‘22’s glovebox, I’ve got the damper mount points. Off to ebay to needlessly complicate my day!
Hi mokupilot, i know this is a old thread but did you ever get the parts you needed to install this damper I have a 22 also and I have the tab on the side of the glovebox door and a metal bracket mounted above it I think I need to get the damper, the pivot ball that mounts to the glovebox and what ever mounts the damper to the top bracket. Any pictures of these parts or part numbers would be appreciated thank you.

No, sure didn’t. My god, I forgot I wrote any of this. I’ll have to look in my glovebox to find out what I was talking about.

I watched the youtube vid on disconnecting/reconnecting the damper. I jacked around with it until I realized its just a little loop on the right side of the glove box and you can just feel it and reattach without crawling around on your back.

I know this doesn't tell you much, but after you do it once after watching all the videos I think you'll probably say "oh, I get it"

Wait

What.....

You have a glove box strut assist? Do i have one? Is it a delete? Do i need one? Checking now

Edit....
Dont have one. Checking google now.
Apparently it's another one of Fords ongoing cost / corner cuts. ??‍?

Found this list of deleted / changes in parts for the Ranger on the 6G side.

https://www.ranger6g.com/forum/threads/get-an-early-model-before-items-are-deleted.7017/

Unfortunately, ALL the vehicle manufacturers are doing this.

They keep deleting / downgrading the quality of parts all in the name of saving money, but they charge you more for less.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

I remember seeing you-tube video on it but mine does not have the damper although I do have the glovebox light, so the manual won't be scared of the dark.
I had my glovebox down just to inspect the mouse entry issues others were reporting, I have the mount points for the damper and was considering possibly adding it back on but thought why create more of a hassle when accessing when it works fine without the damper anyway.
Mine also has the damper. But it's such a hassle to disconnect/reconnect it, I don't even bother anymore. Besides that, the only reason I'm ever in my glovebox is to replace the auto registration or insurance documents every year.
