I have the original equipment General Grabber tires with probably 50K miles on the rears and 30K on the fronts. (The difference being a road hazard picked up about 20000 miles in.) I was planning on replacing the rears this summer and then moving the fronts to the back (again). When I took it to my local mechanic, he took a look at the tires and told me I still have lots of life left in the rears (maybe another 20K or so); he also noted that they were cupped and asked if I was noticing a lot of noise inside the truck. It is louder than it used to be but not unbearable. His opinion was, as long as the noise doesn't become an issue, don't spend the money yet. (Rarely hear that from people I'm trying to give money to.) My wife was riding in the back seat the other day and noticed that it was REALLY loud sitting back there.

Now, I'm wondering if I should replace the two (as planned) with the Grabbers, or maybe go with a slightly less aggressive tire and replace all four for not that much more money than the two Grabbers. I'm looking at Firestone Destination AT2, out the door for less than $880, as opposed to about $620 for the two Generals.

I should also note that I don't do ANY off-road usage of my truck. I bought it simply because I loved the look of the Tremor. Apparently, I'm not alone as I've never had a vehicle in 50 years of driving that has received as many compliments as this one. I'm also ALWAYS in decent weather, living in Florida for most of the year and summers up north in the Midwest.

Two questions I have would be:
1. Does anyone here have experience with this tire on the Ranger? Or, possibly a different tire altogether that would fit my needs?
2. If I did replace all four, is there any value to the original tires with 20K/40K of tread life left in them?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

I've never had them on a Ranger but have, on a full size GMC & a Jeep. They were quiet, rode nice, good in rain & the snow we get.

Seems they would be a good fit for your usage. I just like a more aggressive looking tire.

Thank you for the reply. I agree, I love the look. That's one reason I'm torn. At least I don't have to be in a hurry. I can live with the extra noise.

Might take a look at the Falken Wildpeak A/T. Not the A/T3'S as you don't need in Fl. Their A/T3's have been my go to tire last 3 sets.

Living in the mtns. I need the ability to drive in snow.

Believe it or not the Firestone Destination AT2s are a good tire. The down side is they are less aggressive and have a thin sidewall in the sl or p metric sizes.

Yeah, basically any AT tire is more than I need! I'm probably only keeping the truck for another year until Ford gets their act together with the flat-towing issue. I want something that will make this next year a bit smoother and quieter but don't want any potential buyer to be turned off because the tires weren't aggressive enough. Kind of a fine line.

Thanks for the reply!

I haven't seen hardly any negative reviews. I even saw a guy who put them on a Maverick hybrid and they really popped on that, but I'd like to see them on my Ranger.

Thanks for the reply!

Search marketplace for a set of Bronco take-offs. Some many out there, they go cheap. The wheels bolt right up to the Ranger. Or swap over a set of good used tires.

I picked up 5 wheels with the grabbers for $800CAD.

I think the stock tires are very good and would suggest sticking with them if you don’t want to replace all four.

Then maybe consider another set later down the road if the AT tires are too much for the road?

Thanks for all the help, everyone. I decided that since I'm (probably) keeping the truck only another year, it didn't make sense to change too much so I just ordered the two replacements to get rid of the cupped rear tires. I'm sure just that will improve the noise level significantly and the potential new owner won't complain that it doesn't have beefy enough tires on it.
