Manually shift to fourth.
To do that do I need you put it in sport mode then shift or do you lockout all the gears 10-5th by just hitting the - button?

If you have towing package. Put the truck in trailer mode at speeds under 40 and the transmission will stay 1 gear lower than when trailer mode is off. The transmission will also use 2nd gear instead of skipping it. The truck shifts a little hard the first time driving it if you do this after the truck has been sitting overnight or all day while working. I'll normally wait until I go about quarter to half mile before turning trailer mode on and it shifts normally after that.

Been messing around with sport and tow mode. They definitely take a bit to get used to, Sport holds rpm’s high so you have power when you need it and tow felt a bit jerky. I had some rougher shifts in tow mode but I’ve only been in tow mode for probably 2 minutes of the last month since I’ve owned the truck. Tow mode did keep rpm’s higher on hills.

My guess is the trans is looking for the right gear. Pull the shifter into Sport mode and see if that fixes it.

I just got the code P139C recently an it came up egr sensor. When I googled it it came up in a long thread about bucking an surging. My truck wasn't doing this, at least not any more than what occurs in drive with it lagging in too low a gear. I usually just use tow mode to kick rpms up a little. I cleared the code, if it comes back I'll buy the sensor for around $50.

Once you've replaced this sensor, you'll be able to set the cruise at 20mph and be smooth as silk...

I don't recall having any problems before the code. I have 44K on the truck an the only problems I've had are CEL's. This one an one for the sensor over the gas tank. I may have caused that one with the fluid film I put on before winter one year. The dealer replaced it an I didn't go back for another application fearing it might happen again.

I've mentioned before my truck does as described through out this thread.
I'm willing to try and replace the egr myself. Sid, you mentioned the part numbers in the past.
Someone mentioned a sensor related to the egr? If I replace the egr is this piece cover the sensors talked about? then I read about special tools needed.
Where on the truck is the egr, and what all would I need to replace it? How difficult is this going to be?

Hi Tony, this is the long thread all about this mystery...I describe my findings here...

I encourage everyone to take the time to read the entire thread...all 32 pages +...

I’m curious for anyone who had this issue and resolved it with the EGR sensor replacement: Did you ever also notice the issue while towing? I first noticed something was off one day while towing a travel trailer at 65 on the interstate, there was a cyclical vibration that increased and decreased about once a second for several hours. Not apparent when accelerating or decelerating, alone or towing, nor had I noticed it with the same trailer before. When I started paying close attention I noticed it was occurring at slow, steady speeds at low RPM around town now too, still about once a second but more of a light bucking sensation.

My 2019 Ranger bucks also . Paid $159 for diagnostic. Found theDPFE sensor needs replaced. $495. I said I’ll wait. I googled it. Part is $80. Now, don’t know anything about it, but are they that hard to replace?
