The device should negotiate a charging current with the truck, this means that the apple isn't do it right for some reason. (Either not negotiating at all or drawing more than negotiated.)

My iPhone XS Max charges from fully dead. I've never seen that message and I've got a plethora of branded cords (from Apple to dollar store specials)

I've seen similar issues with off-brand cables or old cables. Did anyone try a new OEM cable? Anker cables are about the best aftermarket ones I've used.

Apple has been running into issues lately with the priorities that its devices have involving USB (Like when they had the issue of plugging an iphone into a laptop and the two devices agreed the most logical thing to do was to charge the laptop with the phone). If only we had some kind of unified standard for serial bus communications that they could turn to.

If the phone isnt doing USB handshakes correctly (requesting its preferred power immediately, rather than progressing from like 1.5v>5v etc..) and the Ranger's USBs arent robust enough (IE, more robust than the USB standards require) then it'll cause issues. This seems similar to the issues with the Nintendo Switch's dock, which uses USB C, but isnt compliant with the power-supply handshake making it incompatible with many power supplies. But aside from poor USB handshake procedure, i'd take a guess maybe there's an issue like the ranger's USB ports might be something like USB 3.0, but only supply USB 2.0 voltage.

I got the new cable out of the box w/ my iPhone, and did work for one time, and then after that it didn't. It worked w/ my husband's iPhone 6, and he did plug in his iPad, and then did the error like I was having.

This is what I am thinking I am seeing for pattern..

if the phone needs to be charged, this will come up... When the phone been fully charged from another charger, then this don't come up.. So I am thinking that these bigger phones are higher charging rating, the USB output can't handle it. But if it's charged, and then the USB can handle it as the high draw is not needed.
Used mine for the first time today. iPhone 8+ was at 33% using standard Apple cord and never saw that message.

Mine was doing that when I first got it and then it stopped. My 6S charges fine.

Has this happened with any non-Apple phones?

Figured I'd update here. I updated my phone to the new iOS 13 a few days ago, and tried it a few times the last couple of days, and I not getting any error pop up anymore.

We have have 2 iPhone 8’s and have never had an issue. One phone uses the cable Ford gave us, and the other phone uses the cord that came with the phone. Hope your issue gets fixed.
