What was plugged into it? Where? In the console or in the back seat area?

if you have the USB smart charging port, you have up to 2 amps of charging power, which is capable of doing a tablet.
if you dont, your charge port is only putting out 0.5 amps.
This is happening when I plug in my iPhone XR.

Yes, have had the same message, charging my 6s iPhone. It charges but I get the message and the phone gets hot. I’ll next look around the cab area of my supercab to see if there’s any other USB ports. If there are any others they’re likely 1/2 amp as well. Angus

I'm having this same issue. Sometimes works using an old apple charging cord, but doesn't work with any cable I've purchased recently. Also using an iPhone XR.

Does it require Apple compliant charge cords? I have no problem plugged into 2 front USB connections but I did buy 2 new 6” Apple compliant cords.

I've tried a couple of cords that was with the phone, and the one I had in my old Ranger, still no go.. As of this afternoon, the dealer is going to look into mine in the morning.

I had the dealer look at it while the had it for the Line-x spray and tonneau cover install, and they are not able figure it out off hand.. I told him get back to me once they find out, and did mention to them that I've seen a couple of people on here having the same issues.

your battery getting hot tells me it's getting plenty of power to charge it.

perhaps you guys have phone battery issues and its not the truck??
Mine won't even charge. it will show a charge for a moement, and then stops and this error shows up.

I've only tried it with apple cords that came with the phone. I will see if it works with an off brand cord.

This is what I am thinking I am seeing for pattern..

if the phone needs to be charged, this will come up... When the phone been fully charged from another charger, then this don't come up.. So I am thinking that these bigger phones are higher charging rating, the USB output can't handle it. But if it's charged, and then the USB can handle it as the high draw is not needed.
