Ughhhhhhh. Just a mere two weeks after a road-rager struck my wife's new Bronco Sport on purpose, a young lady drove her Honda into my Ranger while I was on a quick work errand. I estimate $3500 to $5000 in damages to her car, while I'd say I got off pretty damn lucky.

On the downside, I feel a little bad. At the moment of impact, I looked over and saw her, and started screaming obscenities at her. I've been down here in South Florida for two years now and have been involved in three not-at-fault collisions (this being the third incident). I've had it with the shitty drivers down here. They will literally make eye contact with you, and then steer into you because they want to occupy your lane. There is just an unnatural level of selfishness on the roads here, and people are all too willing to risk other people's safety to do stupid crap like turn left from the farthest right lane, across 3 lanes of traffic, to make their turn. (Moments before the collision, I saw some guy do just that, running a red light across 8 lanes collectively.) So, I had enough and started yelling at this young lady.

It turns out, she was pretty cool, calm, and collected about it. She told me that she thought I could see she was trying to get over. She kept a nervous smile on her face and was polite during our whole interaction. She was nice enough that I actually apologized to her for yelling at her and commended her on keeping her cool and not letting anything escalate.

But there is no doubt, though, that she was at fault. And I got off pretty damn lucky.

That sucks. I've been in the St-Pete/Clearwater area for 3 years now. I went from an assertive driver in Texas to a very, VERY, defensive driver. People just drive like the laws of physics don't matter and like they are the only person on the road, despite the area being massively overpopulated now. I now leave plenty of space in front me. The stupidity of some of the moves drivers will attempt to pull amazes me daily. You never know if the person in front of you is 100yrs old, just got their license, a crazy person from NY/Boston, Florida man, etc. You can be sure about one thing; however, if they have a Bucs or Disney license plate, stay far far away.

And it appears the mods saved it from further damage. :)

It's clear that you know exactly where I'm coming from!

We moved here in January - February of 2022. In September of 2022, some lady rear-ended my wife's Escape while I was driving, as we were sitting in a turn lane at a red light.

Then two weeks ago, while we were turning left in the right lane of a double-turn, the guy in the left lane decided to swerve into my lane mid-turn. I hit the horn and swerved to avoid the collision, and this apparently set him off. He attempted to speed past me, but there was a slow car in his lane and he ended up dropping in behind me at the next red light. After the light turned green, he sped around me and cut me off, hitting my wife's new car. I LOST MY MIND. To make the situation even better, the cop investigating the incident let the guy go without even a ticket and told us we both needed to grow up. He wasn't interested in the video that showed that it wasn't some mutual road rage incident. Ughhhhhh.

Oof. That sucks. Though as an ARB Summit Bumper owner I’m glad to see how well it seems to have taken the impact.

I’m also curious about your antenna setup. I haven’t had any luck so far finding a bracket that could clamp around the large diameter bar.

With video evidence (of the road rager) I feel like there should be some sort of option at your disposal like a civil case for damages. A submission to the local law enforcement authority displaying the poor resolution identified by the police officer despite video evidence of a traffic incident. Something.

Then again, I have no kids and work from home. I have time on my hands that others may not.

Once i get a chance, I'm writing the Sheriff and grading his agency based on my experience, and including the video. :D

I'm happy with how it held up!
I'm pretty sure this is the bracket I used for my CB antenna (next to my big antenna): https://a.co/d/ezCLmNC

And I used this for my light bar (although I don't see the 2.5" option available): https://a.co/d/idyxLmM

My sister has lived a bit north of Tampa for several years now. And of course, my parents are now buying a house a bit north of that. I absolutely HATE driving in FL, and it's getting harder and harder to avoid it. My parents will DEFINITELY live too far away from any airports to make getting an uber an affordable option.

That said, I do live in a tourist town popular with Floridians in the summertime escaping the heat, and we get the exact same horrible driving. We get the NYers and NJers more in the wintertime and they bring a different kind of special with them. And everybody wants to move here, so some of them stick around and bring the bad driving permanently.

Amazingly, when I took my road trip up the east coast to New Brunswick in late summer, people were driving VERY calm and predictably as I got through the NYC area and up into New England.

She told me that she thought I could see she was trying to get over.
That is some sort of stupid right there.

Please tell me the cop wrote her a citation along with the report to hammer home how beyond dumb that was.

I never wrote tickets for accidents unless there was a undrivable vehicle or injury, or in rare circumstances some dumb shit like that happened. I consider it an idiot tax.

That is not an "accident" , just straight up negligent entitlement.

HA! Write her a ticket? Hell no he didn't! LE is almost non-existent down here. It's the damn wild west! I'm just happy he was professional acting.

You know how you are supposed to determine fault in a non-private property accident up there in GA? Down here, they DON'T have to determine fault in ANY collision!

I got rear ended shortly before we moved.

The old dude "couldn't see the bike rack" on the back of my truck... You know, the one with reflective rape on it.

There was no real damage to either vehicle but I called the cops (and sat during rush hour) and waited in the middle of Hillsboro Blvd at 95.the guy was confused, could barely walk and was mumbling about how he wasn't even supposed to be driving...

Luckily the cops that showed up, talked to both of us and the guys daughter who showed up and agreed he shouldn't be driving and revoked his license on the spot.

The cops thanked me for calling him. I didn't call my insurance company and paid the 50 bucks to fix my rack out of pocket...

I gotta say, road rage and dumb drivers are everywhere. But there is a muchbhigher concentration of them in south florida than anywhere else I've lived.

Realistically I think that it is because the people who live there come from so many different places with different driving expectations. Ie the guy who has lived there his whole live vs the guy who just moved there from Colombia, or Haiti. I would joke you never knew if the person next to you was riding a donkey last week and now is in a hummer.
