Also, those Camaros and Silverados DO have issues. Look into it. They just have better programming out of the box that keeps them from destroying themselves as early as ours.
Yep. My neighbor bought a new Colorado. Gave it back 2 weeks later due to transmission issues.

I believe it is a combination of hardware and software.

Mine defiantly feels like hardware in drive and tow , but when i use sport , its perfect , no clunks whatsoever , so it must be the software ...or maybe the extra rpms is making things work better inside there , which also make some sense because "D" is by far the worst offender (horribly low rpms) with "tow" doing much better ( respectable rpms) but still hard downshifts ...

I can say that mine works wonderfully in tow mode and sport. It is the regular default drive mode that shows random issues for me. I would tend to think that is software driven.

2019. 44,890 miles in 4.5 years. So far, so good (as I knock on my wood end table).

Most of those tend to fail between 160,000-200,000 miles unless highway driven. Yes, they do have issues, like small slips here and there, but nothing like our 10 speed.

Mine was so bad it’s like you got rear ended when it shifts 3-4 in the morning.

The Camaro and Silverado will just have a delay or lag or maybe a slip here and there.

Sport has less variability in engagement and engagement is quicker and stronger (more line pressure). Plus, torque converter lockup is different. So, that programming helps hide some of the hardware issues. Like I said, some, or all, of the adaptive programming is to hide hardware issues that cause shifts that most owners would complain about. Sadly, most people do not know that an automatic that shifts quickly and with firm pressure saves the hardware. They like soft shifts which can eat an automatic up.

My personal opinion here, is that people need to stop saying "all", as in every 10r80 in the Ranger does what theirs does.
"Most" or "many" then. Either way it should not be happening to the extent it is across the line up of vehicles that use this transmission.

Programming differences more than likely. They also use a different fluid configuration that could mean their clutch material is different. But that being said lags and slips should be unacceptable no matter what IMHO.

So , do you think if i got a tune mine would be ok in "D" like it is in Sport ? although i would want it a little less aggressive than sport if i tuned it , sport will hang a little to long on my daily drive roads ...

It's interesting to me that you worded it that way because when I just dropped my truck off to have the transmission investigated I told them that when it clunks while down shofting during quick stops and sometimes when going from park to reverse or drive, it is so bad that the first couple of times I legitimately thought I had been rear ended.

Wanted to update this thread. Trans was rebuilt by dealer. It drives like a completely different truck now. I can shift from Park to Reverse and not have to stand on the brake (because it used to lurch and squeal the tires). It shifts smooth as butter between the gears. And no more lurching, slamming, slipping, just smooth operation like it's supposed to be.

FWIW the F-150 (either with 2.7 EcoBoost or 3.5 EcoBoost) has a 10R80, but I'm told it has different clutch plates, one more clutch, and the internals are different. So even though our transmissions are code named the same, they are not the same units as in the F-150.

So for those who have transmission oddities, take it in before the Powertrain warranty is over as they may rebuild the unit like they did for mine.

They just test drove it, confirmed the issue, said "that's not right" and then approved the rebuild. I am completely stock without any hardware modifications or tunes.
