That photo is probably from a Boeing 747 press kit or one from a major airline in the early seventies, judging from the makeup and hairstyles.
A 747 would actually make sense. Judging by the curvature in the sidewall, it doesn't make sense that it would be a fake set up.

For the tri 5 lovers a 57 wagon in clean / restore able shape is for sale on facebook market place in california. pictures show it mostly intact missing some popular parts like grill and other chromes. 7k was the asking price... I felt like the price was low for a tri five esp a wagon style. never see those anymore. thing would make a sweet cruiser and fun weekend ride.

13 years old, working pumping gas at a small family owned gas station. 75 year old lady pulled in & I noticed the 2 brothers ran to the back of the store. I walked out to pump her gas - this was the day gas went up to 61 cents a gallon - she gets out of the car and says "what the beep beeep beeep beeep you beep beep beep think I'm paying beeep beep beep beep for a beep beep beep gallon of beep beeep beep beeep gas? What the beeep beeep beeep beeep are you beeep beeep beeep trying to beep beepp beeep beeep to me you beep beep beep beep??" I was almost in tears when I walked back into the store. The bothers were about to pee on themselves laughing so hard. 45 years later it's still the worst cussing I ever received.

Middle section of the drivers side fin hinged opens to reveal the gas cap on the 57.

The 56 was even more unique. It was hinged in the middle. and you turned a vertical chrome piece just above the red lens 90 degrees to unlock it, and the entire assembly pivoted downward.

Cadillacs were the same way. All of them would get jammed up with road crud and sometimes wouldn't latch properly.

Back in the day my Dad bought Oldsmobile's- there were five kids at the time of this photo, 1954. The kids traveled in the back seat, and we felt safe holding on to an single upholstered strap- it went across the entire length of the back of the front seat. With so many kids, we hoped for a station wagon (today called a SUV), but Dad wouldn't hear of it. So, out of necessity, cargo was tied up on the roof- no Thule's back then, and no bungee cords either. I wonder how many items we lost trying to squeeze that loaded Olds into those charming low clearance covered New England bridges...

Great Memories. We really don't begin to appreciate those moments until years later. Then they become treasures.

That looks like a Oldsmobile Rocket 88! I love the "World" chrome emblems on those old Oldsmobiles.

Tony-this is for you- thanks for the picture of the '56 Old's 88- what a beaut. Here is the front end of my our '54 Old's 88- how heavy that front end must have been! No matter, no one talked about getting good gas mileage back then.

But rebuilt they are not too expensive. Modernized for under 30K. Cleaned up stock even less. Take a peek

It's a beaut! Oldsmobile on the hood instead of the grill too... and real chrome!

Fancy!

I sat on my mother's lap.
I had one of those with a steering wheel! Then I graduated or outgrew it, and while standing on the transmission hump hanging onto the back of the front bench seat, dad slammed on the brakes, I became a dashboard ornament then landed in the floorboard lol, no "hey are you alright?" Just a "Michael get your ass in the backseat"!
