Do you still have the torn boot? Mine got a bit ruined and can't be measured. If so, any idea what the joint side and shaft side are for measurements? I may try a few universal boots in hopes of not spending $260 quite yet.
I still have the boot as Im driving it daily and it is torn but not mangled (yet.) I'll do my best to gather measurements when I get it off the truck. Only other option I can think of for now would be to put calipers on the outside, of the drivers side boot and pick the closest size universal we can find.

Update for anyone else in this situation. A split boot voids the warranty of the axle. I decided to bite the bullet and buy the whole assembly so that doesn't happen. Got it for basically cost from the dealer. However, there are none available at this time. They're expected to ship around the 13th of September, and I have mine coming in overnight once they are available.

Thats a pretty annoying situation to be in, but I guess at least you have a solution. Albeit one that will take longer than it should.

Final update! The assembly comes in this Tuesday, and the dealer is installing it same day. It looks like I'll finally have my truck back on the road.

Just called my dealer to check on my rear axle...
The update is this: "Supplier unable to ship due to engineering defect, resolution in progress"

Everyone go out and check the rear axle for signs of leaks where the hub bolts to the tube. Mine is failed on the drivers side, not leaking a lot, but enough to be annoying on a brand new truck.

new to the group, first post. i have a drivers side rear axle leak, and it is considerable for only having 7k on the clock. live in so cal not going out right now to have the issue looked at, not worth it, retired and not going anywhere on mandatory lock down here.
towing 6x12 trailer at sustained freeway speed i noticed what i am going to call a howl in the rear end, backing off, it would settle down, like gear oil starving the ring gear splash system, finding this leak, it makes perfect sense. when truck was in for first service, explained it had a ring gear howl, obviously they ignored me or bothered to do the usual overall inspection check of the truck at that time as there are old dried into the tire rubber leaving staining oil sling marks from this going on for a long time. interested on any info on this issue. thnx

From the looks of it it looks like the axle seal itself went with that oil leak. What you might ask? Most likely the bearing for the axle shaft. Something you can do is call your local Ford dealer and see if they are participating in the option where they come out and pick the vehicle up from you and get it fixed and bring it back to you. It's more than obvious that this is under warranty. Thought you might like the information.

Ring and pinion howl typically show up after 15-20 minutes of highway driving when they get good and hot. Many techs will do a quick drive around the block and kick it loose with a NPF (no problem found). Take it in and don't take no for an answer. Take the tech or service manager on a road test. If they won't do anything call Ford and open a case. I'd push for a complete new rear end assembly.

thanks on that you are spot on as to how it shows up when i was moving things out of pahrump nevada to the carson valley area i would go thought goldfield a lons slow climb then flat open past on a high desert plain opening it up there to 60-65 the how began which i know is oil starvation surface to surface contact letting off it lets off with the oil having time to re-pool in the pumpkin. i am going ot take that tack with the dealer as to me it should be replaced with the how and oil loss the ring gear at the least is surface burnt and most likely lost its proper temper and wont go the miles it should overall because of this issue, leaking seal lowered the oil level and towing /moving things i know damage has been done, shortening its life overall. thanks for the info on contacting ford opening a file if the dealer thumbs their nose at me. was not aware of that avenue. if there are real problems with the axles the sub is aware of and making the factory are of i think if thumbed down by the dealer i have a real case with them. thanks again on the input. i know the carson city dealer dropped the ball not seeing this when i told them of the howling issue. hopefully while i am here in kalifornia's riverside county for a few months finishing up things here i can find a dealer willing to step up and do the right thing.

i have the same drivers side rear axle leak, and it is leaking allot, what is the story on your issue since you have had it in the shop? i need to take mine in, dealers in Kalifornia riverside county wont come and pick up truck, where i am stuck for the time being with the lockdown. would like to know what you were told on issue as my truck after a 1,000 mile break in (now 7,400 miles on the clock) was hauling a 6x12 trailer and full tuck bed from my old shop to my new place, 8 hour drive uphill from pahrump nevada to carson city nevada, when on the flats at highway speed it would develop howl so was it the axle bearing going bad or oil starvation to the ring gear (my guess) from leaking out pulling 4 plus trips all loaded down.
